Detailed walkthrough
The Courier has the task of speaking to each of the Big MT scientists. After exhausting the seemingly senseless conversation options with Dr. 8, the player character can identify Dr. 8's efforts at communication (as the RobCo termlink protocol) with either a Perception of 7 or a Science skill of 75.
With this knowledge and a further Science skill check of 75, the Courier can choose to either use this knowledge to reprogram Dr. 8, or leave him alone. If the one threatens Dr. 8, they'll be given a randomised quantity of energy weapon ammo and the Easy locked door near him will be unlocked, as a condition of leaving Dr. 8 alone and not reprogramming him. This will also result in bad Karma being given.
However if the Courier explains that they know what it's like to be experimented on (referring to their non-consensual lobotomy), the doctor will be grateful, and the player character will receive good Karma. After passing the check to understand Dr. 8, the player character will have the opportunity to speak with Dr. 8 about the sonic emitter, one of his creations. This can lead to rather humorous dialogue about Dr. 8's apparent fetish over the device, as well as "sonjaculating" (his method of activating the emitter).
The Courier may also imply through dialogue that masturbation is okay and, if male, that they search for Cram and duct tape and are "good to go" whenever they feel the urge. Dr. 8 will then give the player character two of each, plus a copy of ¡La Fantoma! If female, she'll say, "I usually just take a fusion cell and oscillate its charge; it vibrates for like, an hour.", and she will receive microfusion cells, and Tæles of Chivalrie instead.

Notes
This is one of the quests that can help peacefully end the quest Old World Blues and keep the think tanks alive.
