Nuka-Cola is a soft drink in Fallout 76.

Background[]

The original Nuka-Cola was conceptualized by amateur chemist John-Caleb Bradberton in 2042 as a soft drink providing "energy, focus and 120% of the recommended daily value of sugar," though it was not finalized until 2044. The newly-invented beverage took the market by storm, and within a year it could be purchased nationwide. Nuka-Cola quickly became the nation's most popular soft drink, and by 2067, it had grown so popular that a Nuka-Cola vending machine could be found on almost every street in the United States. Even after the Great War, Nuka-Cola still remains popular (in part because it has survived in large quantities across the wasteland).[1][2][3]

The unique taste of Nuka-Cola is the result of a combination of 17 fruit essences, balanced to enhance the classic cola flavor.[4] The combination of carbonated water, caramel color, aspartame, phosphoric acid, potassium benzoate, citric acid, caffeine, and "natural flavors" was marketed as being fortified with "vitaminerals" and "health tonics."[5][6] Ingredients were combined in just the right proportion, to the level that shortages of ingredients or changes to the recipe were noticed by consumers.[7]

By 2077, Nuka-Cola bottles took on a newer look akin to a rocket ship because of a patent infringement lawsuit. Advertising also followed suit with the reuse of the space-themed mascot Nuka-Girl.[8] By the time of the Great War, this change only appears to have been implemented in certain regions, as Nuka-Cola bottles found in New California, the Mojave Wasteland, and the Capital Wasteland still used the old design.

The soft drink was produced locally in Appalachia at the Kanawha Nuka-Cola plant, where product research and taste testing also took place.[9] At the Whitespring Resort, special vendor Bubbles sells several variants of the soda.[10][11]
