The Nucleus Command Center is an unmarked location on the Island in 2287.

Background[]

Before the Great War, the command center served as the control area of the Mount Desert Island Naval Facility. Arnold Wabash, captain of the USS Democracy, used the area to receive orders for his ship. Prior to leaving the facility for Acadia, DiMA used its computers to expand his limited storage capacity, offloading his oldest memories onto the command center's data banks.[1] While the Children of Atom now control the base, they know not to enter this part of the facility due to its sophisticated defenses.

Layout[]

Beyond the entrance from the Nucleus is a corridor with red flashing alert lights and several laser tripwires moving vertically along the wall; triggering the traps will activate six ceiling-mounted turrets. A storage room to the right before the start of the corridor leads to a utility tunnel and a pair of connected rooms with a weapons workbench.

Returning to the initial corridor, the path continues to a rocky tunnel with a turret on the wall at the bend. As the tunnel turns left, another turret on the wall and a Mister Gutsy are ahead. This section of the tunnel also features a facility announcement terminal between two barracks rooms to the left.

The rocky tunnel continues to another facility announcement terminal outside a canteen to the left, with at least one Protectron on patrol. Proceeding past the canteen and up the stairs will lead through a long tunnel, at the end of which is a room containing several robots and two wall-mounted turrets. A closed security door with the command center access terminal and a a trunk are on the right, and a door exiting to a set of upper catwalks in the Nucleus is on the left.

Opening the security door via the terminal allows access to the command room, which holds Captain Wabash's Advanced-locked terminal as well as the terminal needed for Best Left Forgotten. Before the terminal can be used, the player character must activate the power switch on the back wall of the cage behind the terminal console. Doing so will sound an alarm and release a hostile Assaultron from behind the security door to the south.

DiMA: "As a prototype synth, my... raw data capacity is limited. I began using computer banks to expand. To give me room to ponder. See new things. I had to leave some of my earliest memories behind when I left the sub base to the Children of Atom. I thought they were safe."
