The New River is an unmarked river once freely running through the former U.S. state of West Virginia.

Background[edit | edit source]

The New River once flowed freely through West Virginia but the river itself has mostly dried up. It shares its name with a nearby bridge, resort, and local ale.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

The New River appears in Fallout 76.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

  • The New River is based on the real world river of the same name, which begins in the state of North Carolina, flows through Virginia, and enters West Virginia. From there, it meets with the Gauley River and turns into the Kanawha River.
  • In game, the river is shifted significantly on the map and appears to connect the Kanawha River in Charleston to the Ohio River, rather than meeting the Gauley River and forming the Kanawha at some point between the Summersville Dam and Charleston.
