A melon is a consumable in Fallout 4.
Characteristics
Melons can only be planted in dirt. They can be harvested for food to feed settlers. A settler must be assigned to the plant with the Workshop menu in order to grow and harvest the fruit. They appear like a cross between a watermelon and a pumpkin as far as the stem.
With the addition of the new Survival mode, they have become a highly useful consumable providing both water and food with each bite. Two melons, when eaten, will bring the Sole Survivor from "parched" and "peckish" back to a normal thirst and hunger level.
Locations
- Melons can be purchased from multiple vendors across the Commonwealth.
- It can also be harvested from the player character's planted melon patches and patches found in abandoned or owned farms.
- Some can be found behind the house across the street from the Sole Survivor's house in Sanctuary Hills.
- Several patches can be found at Abernathy farm, just south of Red Rocket truck stop. Lucy Abernathy will ask the Sole Survivor to give her any melons they come across and will pay them 3 caps per melon sold to her.
- Several can be found in the Super Duper Mart in Lexington.
Bugs
- Sometimes when planting a melon, it can be placed in the harvest state already. This can lead to an infinite loop of planting and harvesting it. [verified]
- It seems to disappear after some time.
Sometimes when removing a melon, it disappears, but can still be seen in the workshop menu. Every attempt to move it causes game to crash or lag. [verified]
