Marine armor is a set of armor in Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor.

Characteristics

Marine Armor is a top-tier armor set exclusive to the island of Far Harbor. The name references its utilization by US Marines before the Great War, a fact that gets reflected by the armor's protective qualities. Its damage resistance and energy resistance are far superior to what a full set of upgraded heavy combat armor can provide, topped off with a decent amount of radiation resistance, to boot.

The downside is the armor's extremely high weight - at 97 pounds for the full set, it weighs as much as T-60 power armor without a frame. It may be possible that the Marine Armor was designed either as a precursor technology or to deliberately bridge the gap between combat armor and power armor.

Aesthetically, Marine Armor appears like a cross between an early-stage power armor prototype and an EOD suit, with thick reinforced plating covering every part of the body. The torso piece incorporates a power pack mounted to its back as well as a thick pipe on the chest that might hint at some sort of air filtration or cooling system. Both are purely cosmetic and do not add any functionality to the armor in-game. The same is true for the armor's multiple pockets and for its helmet which, despite sporting a lamp above the visor, does not actually provide a light source to replace the PipBoy.

Locations

  • The only complete set of Marine Armor in the game is scattered across three steamer trunks located in wrecked ships off the coast of Far Harbor. Retrieving the last of DiMA's memories from the Church of the Children of Atom during the quest Best Left Forgotten starts a miscellaneous quest to recover the armor and marks the three chests' locations on the map. The steamer trunks only appear upon acquisition of this quest, thus making it impossible to claim the armor beforehand. All armor pieces may spawn with random levelled modifications.
    • Both legs can be found due west of Haddock Cove in the easternmost section of the sunken ship.
    • The chest, helmet, tactical helmet and the wetsuit are located south by southwest of Rayburn Point in a sunken shipping container.
    • Both arms can be found due east of the Harbor Grand Hotel in the bow of a sunken ship.
  • Marine Armor pieces are occasionally available for purchase from Kane, the Children of Atom's armor vendor in The Nucleus.
  • Several of the Children of Atom Zealots in and around the Nucleus including Grand Zealot Richter wear partial sets with the Zealot modification. None of these sets includes a helmet.

Mods

  • Zealot's Marine Armor: Standard (Child of Atom top guards where this version)
  • Assault Marine Armor: Improves Damage, Energy and Radiation Resistance. Can be acquired through the quest Best Left Forgotten.
  • Inquisitor's Marine Armor: Improves Damage, Energy and Radiation Resistance. (Exactly the same as the assault version, but usually with +1 point in radiation resistance. Also has a more defined version of the zealot armor)

Variants

The specialized "Recon" marine armor items are the legendary versions of the marine armor set and which can still be upgraded at the armor workbench. They can be purchased from various vendors around the island.

  • Recon marine helmet (+1 Agility and Perception): Purchased from Brooks in Far Harbor.
  • Recon marine chest piece (Reduces damage while standing and not moving by 15%): Purchased from Cog in Acadia.
  • Recon marine right arm (Increases wearer’s movement speed by 10%): Purchased from Sister Mai in the Children of Atom base, The Nucleus.
  • Recon marine left arm (Temporarily slows time during combat when the Sole Survivor's Hit Points are at 20% or less): Purchased from Kane in Children of Atom base, The Nucleus.
  • Atom's Bulwark (Damage resistance and energy resistance increase with rads): The High Confessor gives this chest piece to the Sole Survivor after completing Reformation.

Another helmet variant, the Tactical Helmet, is available as part of the miscellaneous quest mentioned above. This variant has significantly lower resistances than the regular Assault Helmet due to its lack of armor plating. It bears a faint visual resemblance to the Chinese stealth armor's helmet. It is also occasionally sold by Brother Kane in The Nucleus.

Notes

  • Adding the Ultra-Light modification to the main body parts results in a weight of only 33.8, down from 81 normally. This makes the set much more viable for those with little carry weight to spare.
  • The unique Recon pieces are extremely expensive. Even with maximum Charisma and maxed-out Cap Collector and Junktown Vendor perks, each piece costs more than 10,000 caps (15,000+ for the Recon torso), making them the most expensive items in the game.
  • The wetsuit is not upgradable with Ballistic weave, making it an inferior undergarment compared to, say, Military fatigues.
  • The helmets occupy all three head slots, again limiting the combinations.
  • Contrary to all other armor types, Marine Armor only provides three modification levels: Zealot Armor, Assault Armor (the basic type) and Inquisitor Armor. The first and the latter share the same Children of Atom iconography, but the Zealot armor's resistance are only about half as high as those of the other two versions. Functional mods like Ultra-light or Muffled can be applied as usual, except for the Recon Marine Helmet, which is not modifiable
