A mailbox or mail dropbox is a type of container in Fallout 3.
Characteristics[]
Postal storage vessels in the wasteland. These were used by the pre-War postal service but now hold miscellaneous items and minor loot.
Locations[]
They can be found in the general area of pre-War homes or the remains of one, such as in Springvale.
- Ten mailboxes at Big Town.
- Four mailboxes at Faded Pomp Estates.
- Four mailboxes north of the Chryslus Building.
- Four mailboxes at Minefield.
- Four in a derelict town just west of the Corvega factory.
- Two clean mailboxes at Tenpenny Tower.
- Three dropboxes around Takoma Park.
- Two dropboxes at Vernon Square.
Contents[]
The standard mailbox may contain junk items, or even a letter from Vault-Tec denying the household's residency in a vault. They may contain various weapons, like brass or spiked knuckles. Mail dropboxes will often contain cherry bombs, random junk items, or weaker melee weapons, like switchblades.
- 1-3 frag grenades and some Psycho is in a mail dropbox by house number 1 in Springvale.
- A copy of Guns and Bullets is in a mailbox near the crashed Nuka-Cola truck near Old Olney.
- A copy of Pugilism Illustrated is in the mailbox on the corner near the parked blue car, in Springvale.
- Occasionally rolling pins can be found in mailboxes.
Traps[]
There are some mailboxes that are rigged to explode when one steps near them.
- Near the raid shack.
- One outside of the charnel house.
- And another in front of Kaelyn's Bed & Breakfast.
Notes[]
- The Scrounger and Fortune Finder perks will increase the chance of finding ammunition and caps in mailboxes.
- Outside a home in Springvale a letter from Vault-Tec can be found, and it is addressed to the Gomez family.
