The MG42, called light machine gun in the Pip-Boy, is a ballistic weapon in Fallout 76.

Background

This section is transcluded from Machine gun. To change it, please edit the transcluded page.

An alternative design for the squad light machine gun, the MG42 was designed during the later half of World War II in Nazi Germany.[Non-game 1] Designed from the start to be low cost and easy to build, the MG42 is an air-cooled, belt fed, open bolt, recoil-operated machine gun with a barrel capable of quick changes in the middle of combat.[1] After World War II, copies of the MG42 produced in the United States would be a semi-common sight in Appalachia.[2]

The light machine gun is a fast-firing alternative to the minigun, consuming the rather common .308 caliber rounds. It has respectable per-shot damage for a heavy weapon but it does not deal the most damage like the Gatling gun. The MG42 truly shines in its high rate of fire that allows it to chew through its ammo drum in seconds. This makes it rather effective at dealing with less armored foes.
