For the small Chinese robot in Fallout 76, see Liberator. |
Liberator is a unique weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.
Background[]
Sometime before 2281, when he was still a recruit decanus, Dead Sea was gifted his cherished blade by the centurion he served under in recognition of his contribution to the Legion's conquest of the Sun Dogs tribe.[1][2] Considering it a token of his inherent prowess, Dead Sea would only ever gift it to another in order to use the shame of being surpassed by them as motivation to gain new glory and become worthy of an even greater weapon.[3]
Characteristics[]
Compared to the standard machete, Liberator deals higher damage per strike and around triple the damage-per-second (DPS). It also inflicts a slightly higher amount of bonus damage to enemy limbs, more likely crippling them.
Though a unique variant, it shares the same appearance as the standard variant.
Special attack[]
Liberator has a special Back Slash attack that does 70% damage in V.A.T.S. at the cost of 3 fewer action points (requires a Melee skill of 50).

- Note: Melee weapons do double normal damage in V.A.T.S.
It is possible to execute Back Slash outside of V.A.T.S. (without the required Melee skill of 50 to perform the move) by initiating a power attack (hold attack button) while moving forward.
Durability[]
Liberator can successfully strike about 370 times from full condition before breaking.
Variants[]
- Machete - the standard variant found throughout the Mojave Wasteland.
- Machete gladius - a rare variant typically used by high-ranking legionaries such as centurions.
- Broad machete - a unique variant added with the Courier's Stash add-on.
- Boone's machete - a unique non-playable weapon used by Craig Boone.
- Gladiator machete - a rare variant exclusively used along with the gladiator armor when fighting in the arena at the Fort.

Location[]
The weapon is located at Nelson and found with Dead Sea. If one is allied with Caesar's Legion, the weapon will be rewarded by him after completing We Are Legion. If one is allied with any non-Legion faction and progresses Restoring Hope to its end, they will be sent to take back control of Nelson, doing so either with reinforcements from Camp Forlorn Hope or independently (such as by completing Back in Your Own Backyard for Ranger Milo). In either case, liberating the town will require that Dead Sea be killed, for which he is typically found in the barracks towards the north side. After killing him, Liberator can be looted from his body.
