Dad,
You're probably pretty mad right now. I suppose you have a right to be. This is a mess. I'm no golf course architect. I don't know the first thing about golf. The robots kept hounding me, so I scribbled something on a napkin and left them to it.
I appreciate everything you've done for me, but I don't want to take over your business. Stop trying to drag me into it. I'm a nuclear engineer, Dad. Not a gardener.
I've spent the summer working on my dissertation. It's done. I'm heading back to CIT to present my defense. And then I'm never setting foot on a golf course again.

This note was originally going to be in the form of a holotape. Although the holotape itself no longer exists as an item, the voice lines for it can still be found in the game's files, with Ryan Ainsley narrating it and voiced by Eric Lopez. The voice lines are essentially a slightly reworded version of the letter's transcript. Although no dialogue remains in the files for this holotape, a rough approximation of the order of the voice lines can be constructed by following the letter of resignation. In the voice lines, Ryan identifies himself as "Evan." This name change is likely part of why the holotape was cut, potentially to avoid confusion with Evan, the Vault 76 overseer's former fiancé. Additionally, the line "scribbled something on a napkin" seemingly makes more sense as a paper note, not a holotape.[Non-canon 1]

I don't know the first thing about golf. And to be honest? I don't care. I mean sure, hit some balls around, get drunk, I guess. The robots kept hounding me, so I scribbled something on a napkin and left them to it. Look, I appreciate everything you've done for me. But I don't want to take over the business. Stop trying to drag me into it. I... I am a nuclear engineer, Dad. Not a gardener. I can't believe you pulled me out of college for this. Well, I spent the summer working on my dissertation anyway. And now? I'm done. I'm heading back to CIT to present my defense. And then, I'm never setting foot on a golf course again."
Note: These lines are from a cut holotape. No associated item exists for the holotape, and transcripts of the dialogue were removed, though the voice lines can still be found in the game's files.
