I don't get the Vaults. When it's time to come out, what if people are still alive on the surface? They'll be Stone Age creatures, probably eat whoever steps out of your Vaults.

Leon Von Felden was a pre-War scientist and employee of West Tek who headed the Forced Evolutionary Virus Project at the West Tek Research Facility and later the Mariposa Military Base, where he possessed the highest corporate security clearance.[1] He is mentioned in Fallout and Fallout 3 and appears in the Fallout TV series.

Background[]

Meeting with Vault-Tec[]

At some point prior to the Great War, Leon was invited to attend a meeting at the Southern California headquarters of the Vault-Tec Corporation in Los Angeles, along with Vault-Tec executives Barb Howard and Bud Askins, Big MT representative Frederick Sinclair, REPCONN Aerospace CFO Julia Masters and RobCo Industries CEO Robert House. He was informed of Vault-Tec's protracted plans to extend their network of Vaults across the nation and heard their offer of selecting some vaults to be used for social experiments at the behest of the corporate heads; while he was skeptical of the Vaults' creation, Von Felden posited a scenario for a Vault developing super mutant soldiers using "illegal immigrants."[2]

The Mariposa Rebellion[]

Later in October 2077, when the Mariposa Rebellion took place, Von Felden was one of the last scientists to be interrogated after the base's military detachment discovered the FEV experiments going on there. He was being interrogated on October 23 when Mariposa lost contact with the outside world halfway through.[3] Without any expectation of bringing the scientist to justice for his crimes, Captain Roger Maxson ordered Von Felden's summary execution. He also arranged for all the scientists to receive a proper burial, if only to ease his own conscience.[4]

Appearances[]

Leon Von Felden is mentioned in Fallout and Fallout 3. He appears in the Fallout TV series episode "The Beginning" where he is portrayed by James Yaegashi.

I can't believe those bastards finally did it. Damn them all to Hell. They finally let the A-Bombs fly. We were right in the middle of trying to pry the real story out of von Felden when we completely lost contact. I have a feeling the research center was hit hard. I don't know why, just call it a gut feeling. It seems inconceivable that we were not targeted. I'm sure China will make up for that oversight real soon. Luckily, we had moved our families from outside into the facility the day before yesterday. We do not yet know if the fallout has reached this area."

I convinced the men that we should bury the scientists. I don't know why...perhaps it was to ease my conscience. I finally started to believe their stories when the last one was dying.

My God, what have I become?"
