With the Lead Belly perk, you take 50% less radiation every time you drink from an irradiated water source.— In-game description

Lead Belly is a perk in Fallout: New Vegas.

Effects[]

Taking this perk grants a 50% decrease in the amount of rads incurred from all irradiated food and drink sources, e.g. most water fountains, dirty water, Sugar Bombs, Nuka-Cola, etc.

Notes[]

  • Because the game relies on the same engine as Oblivion, which used floating point numbers even if the player only saw rounded whole numbers, it is highly likely that a source of water that goes (for example) from "1 Rad" pre-perk to "1 Rad" post-perk is still accurately treated internally i.e. 1 Rad versus 0.5 Rad.
  • At high levels, this perk may become redundant; RadAway, Rad-X, and apparel with radiation resistance, such as power armor, become more available and readily obtainable.
  • Due to the abundance of clean water sources as well as several vendors who sell purified water, it reduces the relative usefulness of the perk, although one who prefers to eat food rather than use stimpaks may still find use.
  • Old World Blues (add-on) With the addition of Implant Y-3 in Old World Blues, this perk potentially becomes redundant. That said, it has early-game availability and doesn't cost any amount of caps to get. In addition, this perk's effects extend to food items while the implant does not.
