La Longue Carabine is a unique weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background

The customized personal weapon of Corporal Sterling of the New California Republic Army's First Recon.[1] Gorobets gave the corporal permission to use the gun despite other members of First Recon using bolt-action rifles, so long as he was able to hit his targets.[1]

Characteristics

La Longue Carabine expanded

A unique variant of the cowboy repeater. The weapon deals more damage and reloads through the front of the magazine tube, similar to Lincoln's repeater. La Longue Carabine is more accurate than a regular cowboy repeater. Its spread has been reduced greatly as a result of patch 1.3.0.452, and it is now slightly more than that of the marksman carbine. Unlike other lever action rifles, La Longue Carabine is not loaded with ammunition one round at a time, but instead all at once and due to this, reloading the rifle may be faster than reloading an empty cowboy repeater. It will also jam at lower conditions because it doesn't use the counted ammo reload system like with .357 Magnum revolvers and brush guns.

Like most unique weapons, weapon modifications cannot be used on La Longue Carabine. By default, it comes with the aforementioned scope modification and the extended feeder magazine already attached. Although in appearance the magazine tube on La Longue Carabine is smaller than that on a cowboy repeater with an extended magazine, they both have the same capacity.

Durability

La Longue Carabine can fire a total of about 745 standard rounds, the equivalent of 68 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

Bugs

  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 Sometimes it will be impossible to switch ammunition types, even when a particular ammunition type has been exhausted. This is resolvable by dropping, or storing the weapon on a companion, and then reequipping it. Though it may still not be possible to switch ammunition types while equipped.[verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3 When aiming it will sometimes display a random assortment of colors in an odd pattern.[verified]

Sterling: "I call her La Longue Carabine. Didn't always have the scope - I added that myself. Been shooting with her so long... couldn't bring myself to toss her away. Would have felt guilty to part with the old girl. The other snipers use bolt-action, but Gorobets reckoned it didn't matter none if I was different, so long as I can hit my targets."
