Kurt Barlow was a RobCo programmer sent to tune up and increase the learning capabilities of the AI that was purchased by the New England Technocrat Society.[1]
Background[]
After being assigned by RobCo to work on their new AI system, Kurt Barlow arrived at the Harbormaster Hotel. On August 13th, 2077, Kurt updated firmware, enabled learning mode, and started working on writing new learning subroutines.[2] By the 21st, Kurt had finished connecting the system to the lights, sound, stage, door locks, the central air system, and a Protectron. In addition, Kurt programmed the machine to run day-to-day tasks and event set-up and decorations - including scanning in the Picket Fences Halloween Special magazine.[3]
By September 14th, Kurt had done enough programming to allow the AI to handle nearly all day-to-day operations, allowing the firing of most of the Technocrat Society's staff. The programming also included feeding the AI more data to learn from, including news and horror films, and after the AI held a political debate with Mr. Wendt for over an hour, Mr. Wendt gave Kurt a membership card to the Society.[4]
However, by October 5th, Mr. Wendt changed his mind and revoked Kurt's membership, believing that the programmer's services were no longer needed. Kurt returned to RobCo for reassignment, but not before uploading more horror films and books and completing Mr. Wendt's final request - increasing the AI's learning model to maximum, despite the programmer's warnings.[5]
Appearances[]
Kurt Barlow is mentioned in Fallout 4, introduced in the next gen update.
