Kentucky was a state of the pre-War United States of America, mentioned multiple times in the Fallout series.

Background[]

A landlocked state in the South, Kentucky is known for bourbon,[1] horse-racing, and being the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States.[2] Despite being a slave state, Kentucky remained on the Union side during the American Civil War.

After the Great War, there was at least one successful community in the former state, as Sophie Wagoner recalls joyful memories of living in a Kentucky commune as a child.[3] Appalachian native Carver Timmerman also mentions that he and his mother lived in a settlement in Kentucky.[4] Enclave President John Henry Eden claims to have also grown up in rural Kentucky, referencing the locations of Knob Creek and Hodgenville.[5]

  3. Sophie Wagoner: "Who, me? Oh, I'm not that interesting. Came here from Kentucky. Wanted to see more of the world. I had a pretty happy childhood. We had a whole commune. All the kids raised together, so I had like two dozen siblings and lots of parents! Got here, heard about the Responders, and thought: that's for me! It's like my moms always said: when everybody pitches in, there's nothing we can't do together."

  4. Carver Timmerman: "Well I was born around here actually, but my mom moved us sometime after the war. Now we'veIn-game spelling, punctuation and/or grammar live in a settlement out in what used to be Kentucky, I guess. Maybe it still is Kentucky? I don't know, I tried reading some old geography text books as a kid, seemed like a waste of time now, though."

  5. John Henry Eden: "When I was a child, growing up in rural Kentucky, I had the best friend a boy could hope for -- my dear old dog, Honey. Oh, the adventures we had! From Knob Creek to Hodgenville we roamed, carefree and courageous, irresponsible and completely inseparable. It was, for a little boy, the perfect existence."
