Detailed walkthrough[]
To start this quest, speak to Captain Parker in the Aerotech Office Park southeast of the NCR sharecropper farms. If the Courier offers to help, Parker will mention two ongoing issues: a string of disappearances among the refugees (starting the side quest The Coyotes) and trouble from Keith, a the resident whom Parker suspects is involved in chem dealing and crooked gambling, but he's so far been unable to find proof to carry out an arrest. He requests they scope out Keith's regular hangout in suite 200 and bring him the proof he needs.
Inside the old office suite, one can complete the investigation through one of three methods:
- Find the marked cards Keith uses in his crooked game, located inside a desk inside the southwest corner room.
- Speak with Keith directly and either:
- Passing a 45 Barter check gets him to reveal he has a side hustle selling Jet and offers a deal to the Courier as well.
- Passing a 60 Speech check gets him to reveal his scheme of using marked cards to bilk caps from those he plays Caravan with. Note: Choosing this option will not progress the quest and one will still have to find the marked cards as evidence.
Once the evidence of Keith's activities is acquired, one must return to Parker to turn Keith in. The captain will reward them 150 caps and extend an offer to assist him in arresting Keith for an additional reward. Refusing completes the quest immediately, but agreeing will allow for a greater reward.
After agreeing, the captain will lead the Courier back to suite 200 and confront Keith. The card shark will taunt Parker with slights about his ex-wife, causing the enraged captain to then murder Keith with his service rifle. All dialogue options with Cpt. Parker afterward will regardless net an additional 100 caps for a total of 250.
Notes[]
- If one agrees to help him arrest Keith, Captain Parker will walk at a very slow pace when going to suite 200. One can speed up this process by moving into him from behind. He also tends to get stuck and immobile at various points along the way.
- If the player character talks to Keith or Cpt. Parker during the arrest confrontation and then exits dialogue, the two will walk away as if nothing happened.
- When passing the Barter check, Keith mentions keeping his marked cards in a shack for safekeeping. There is no such shack tied to Keith in the game files, and the cards are instead found in a hiding place inside the suite.
Bugs[]
- Rex may turn hostile against the junkies, causing Keith to flee and ending the dialogue between Keith and Captain Parker. This may be related to the bug that triggers seemingly random attacks on Rex. To fix, reload from an earlier save and take all of the food and water items out of Rex's inventory. [verified]
- Captain Parker may disappear from the game when entering Aerotech suite 200 to arrest Keith. This can be fixed by reloading a saved game. [verified]
- The Coyotes is in progress and has not been completed, it may not be possible to show him Keith's marked cards. The only dialogue option is to mention that you're still looking for evidence. [verified] If Captain Parker's quest
- Sometimes when Captain Parker goes to confront Keith about the marked cards, Parker will not initiate the conversation with Keith but leave as if he did. This makes it impossible to complete any of the unmarked quest. Captain Parker's dialogue will stay as if he was never shown any evidence of Keith's wrongdoing but will never give the option to show the evidence. [verified]
- After completing the quest and Captain Parker kills Keith and gives a reward, the option to speak to Captain Parker about Keith again may appear. Parker will give the information on Keith again as if Keith were still alive. Needless to say, the quest cannot be repeated. [verified]
- Captain Parker might shoot Keith again after giving the extra caps for helping confront him. If this occurs, talk to Captain Parker repeatedly and say goodbye to watch him continue to shoot the dead Keith. [verified]
- If Keith is sleeping when Parker confronts him, Keith will get up and then go back to sleep as soon as the conversation is over. Captain Parker will spin around in circles with his gun drawn above the sleeping Keith. This is corrected by talking to Keith again. As soon as Keith gets up off his bed, Captain Parker will kill him. [verified]
