Karen Schenzy is a resident of Arefu in 2277.
Background[]
The recent conflict with The Family has put the extroverted Karen heavily at odds with the town's leader, Evan King, and his impromptu security measures meant to defend against The Family's incursions. Although she appreciates some of his attempts to help,[1] she otherwise views him as a "spineless wimp" who is either unable or unwilling to take meaningful action to deal with the threat that The Family poses.[2][3] Believing that living in constant fear is not the answer, she has taken to defiant actions such as wandering around outside of her house, even at night, in spite of The Family's incursions into the town.[Non-game 1] She would much rather take direct action against The Family, especially if she is informed about the deaths of Davis and Matilda West,[4] but feels that King does not have her back.[5]
Daily schedule[]
She stays in her home all day, unless the Lone Wanderer has finished the Blood Ties quest and has selected the option for Vance to provide the town with security. Then, she will be seen wandering around Arefu more often.

References[]
- ↑ The Lone Wanderer: "Evan King told me to check on you. Is everything okay?"
Karen Schenzy: "Scared out of my mind. I'm glad he's checking on us, but until someone nips the problem in the bud, we may as well stay inside forever."
(Karen Schenzy's dialogue) - ↑ The Lone Wanderer: "Can you tell me more about what's been going on around here?"
Karen Schenzy: "We're scared shitless. Evan King's got everyone so worked up about the Family, no one wants to set foot outside. That asshole runs the show, but does he really do anything about our problem? No."
(Karen Schenzy's dialogue) - ↑ The Lone Wanderer: "So, what's your take on Evan King?"
Karen Schenzy: "He's a spineless wimp. His best solution to the Family is to stay inside our homes and hide. What does that tell them? It tells them that we can be pushed around whenever they want. I'm sick of it, and I'm sick of King."
(Karen Schenzy's dialogue) - ↑ The Lone Wanderer: "Did you know the Wests are dead?"
Karen Schenzy: "What?! Oh my God! King has to do something about this now! Tell him to get off his ass and hunt those bastards down!"
(Karen Schenzy's dialogue) - ↑ The Lone Wanderer: "What do you think about the Family?"
Karen Schenzy: "All they do is terrorize us. They taunt us to open our doors, throw bottles at our houses and scream at us. If I knew King had my back, I'd step outside and show them just how I feel about their visits... especially after this last attack."
(Karen Schenzy's dialogue) - ↑ The Lone Wanderer: "Any help you can provide would be appreciated."
Karen Schenzy: "There are a few interesting places around here I've heard about. I don't know if they'll help you or not, but you're welcome to them."

Non-game
- ↑ Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition' p.79: "Karen Schenzy:
Karen is 23 and quite extroverted, but she is smart enough not to speak to just anyone. She doesn't know much about the current situation in Arefu and constantly finds herself at odds with Evan King. She likes to wander around outside her house, even at night, and does it almost defiantly to tick off the mayor. She doesn't believe that living in constant fear is the answer. However foolish this might be, you have to admire her guts. "
