As the commanding officer of Camp Forlorn Hope, Major Polatli has much to deal with on a daily basis; extensive casualties, a severe lack of supplies, and the dangerously low morale of his Troopers being just the usual issues, and Legion raiding parties from Nelson and issues with communication with the Rangers preventing him from acting to fix them.
In conversation it is clear that while he wishes to make the best of the situation and end the hell his men are enduring, he feels that his hands are tied, and that the risk of failing any operation is too great to try. If the Courier steps in on the side of the NCR, however, his tone changes as the issues around camp are solved. Soon, he becomes more confident and battle-ready, and tries to have his men prepared as well as they can be before they assault Nelson. After the battle, he is very grateful to the Courier for making victory possible, but retains his strong, military discipline afterwards.
