We live[]
The end of the world happened. It actually happened. Which is pretty amazing.
I feel like I'm in a science fiction serial. Maybe one of us is even a robot. That's usually how these things work. My money is on Tommy, but as hard as she works, Wendy could be one too.
Tommy isn't a robot[]
Mike convinced me to help him kill Tommy, because he pissed him off about something or other. It doesn't matter. I didn't shoot Tommy because he's a jerk. Lots of people are jerks. I didn't even want to kill him. I just wanted to turn him off.
But it turns out he's not a robot. So if it's not Tommy, then who? My guess is Mike. Wanting to kill someone for something so marginal is precisely something a robot do.
Is Mike the robot?[]
Mike was despondent when I entered his room. He said he didn't want to talk, and just stared at the wall. I don't know, I've never known Mike to be so unemotional.
No, not unemotional. Robotic. There's no other way to describe it. One second, he's excited to kill Tommy, the next second, he's completely inconsolable about his death. How very binary.
Mike isn't a robot[]
After I disassembled Mike and found he was indeed a human, my attention turned back to Wendy.
It pains me that I took such a roundabout way of coming to the obvious answer. But Wendy is clearly a robot. She works all day, and is a fast learner. Too fast. Only a machine could pick up such things so quickly.
She says the work helps her ignore all the craziness around us, but I feel like it just helps her recharge. Maybe she has some kind of solar battery that requires working in the sun. I'll know soon enough.
Wait...so am I the robot?[]
Wendy accessed my holotape entries, and confronted me for killing the others. She told me I was insane and went so far as to prove she could bleed.
But none of that computes. If Wendy is human, and Mike is human, and Tommy is human, the only logical conclusion is that I am not.
But that can't be. Can it? Except it's pretty much the twist ending that's in every sci-fi novel I've ever read. How could I miss something so obvious?
