Jared Gresham is a resident of Far Harbor residing on the Island in the Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor.
Background[]
A short time before the Sole Survivor arrived at Far Harbor looking for Kasumi Nakano in 2287, Jared and a group of Harbormen went out into the Fog-covered ruins surrounding the town to scavenge for resources, apparently seeking rebar at Captain Avery's request to help reinforce "The Hull" as well as wiring to maintain the Fog condensers.[1] However, the group was attacked by a pack of gulpers that wounded several of them and forced a retreat back to Far Harbor, only to be shut out as the Mariner refuses to open the gate to protect the rest of the Harbormen.
Should the Sole Survivor manage to protect the group from the gulpers' attack as well as an additional group of anglers, Jared thanks them by gifting caps and, if asked, voices his intention to abandon Far Harbor and the Island and leave for the mainland.[2] After at least two in-game days, he will disappear from Far Harbor, presumably following through on his promise to depart.

Behind the scenes[]
The character Jared Gresham serves as a tribute to a Fallout fan by the same name from Alabama, who died in a car crash before Fallout 4 was released. One of the real-life Jared's friends, Jon Carvalho, attempted to contact Emil Pagliarulo via Twitter. Although Pagliarulo typically does not respond to such messages, he was moved when Carvalho told him Gresham's story. Although they originally planned to simply put his name in a terminal entry as a quiet reference, the lead designer of Far Harbor mentioned that some new human NPCs needed to be named, and the team realized they could memorialize Gresham that way.[3]
