James Monroe (April 28, 1758 – July 4, 1831) was the fifth president of the United States of America, serving from 1817 to 1825. The town of Monroe, Connecticut is named after him.


James Monroe was born on April 28, 1758, in Monroe Hall, Virginia to a carpenter and his wife. Monroe held many political offices including Senator from Virginia, Secretary of State, and Secretary of War. Monroe was elected in the 1816 presidential election as the Democratic-Republican nominee. His most notable accomplishment was authoring the Monroe Doctrine, steering the European powers away from Latin America. Monroe died in 1831 from heart failure.


Monroe is mentioned by the Capitol Preservation Society terminal in Fallout 3. He is also indirectly mentioned in the Fallout 76 update Wastelanders.
