Initiates are the low-ranking members of the Pillars of the Community cult operating in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4.

Background[]

The "initiates" of the Pillars of the Community are actually victims of the scam being run by the cult leader "Brother" Thomas and his missionaries, outwardly preaching community harmony while secretly bilking innocents of their valuables and leaving them destitute. However, the initiates are not aware this is a scam, and are happy to stay with the cult at their headquarters, the Charles View Amphitheater. They have fully conceded to the cult's preachings, seeking to reach a better life by attaining "Level 2" in the cult, and they actively try to convince outsiders to join them as well.[1] In fact, they are so dedicated that they are willing to defend the cult with their lives.

Other interactions[]

  • If the Sole Survivor enters combat with Brother Thomas or his missionaries at any point, the initiates will also turn hostile against the Sole Survivor. This may happen during Emogene Takes a Lover, but also if Thomas is interacted with beforehand.

Notes[]

  • Missionaries and initiates have unique dialogue that plays if they chase the player character to Boston Common and then retreat (scripted behavior for all enemies who approach the Common); however, due to their distance from the Common, this is unlikely to ever happen. The only other human characters who have lines for this situation are generic raiders and Gunners.
  • The initiates' appearances are randomized and will appear differently between save files.

Appearances[]

These initiates appear only in Fallout 4.
