A customer! Not many people come into Boulder City these days.

Ike is the bartender of the Big Horn Saloon and the sole resident of Boulder City in the Mojave Wasteland in 2281. He appears in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

The archetypal bartender of a lonely town, Ike is the only remaining resident of Boulder City after much of it was destroyed during the First Battle of Hoover Dam in 2277.[1] Owner and sole operator of the Big Horn Saloon,[Non-game 1] his typical customer fare comes from workers employed at the nearby concrete mixing yard. Conversely, he rarely gets a visit from troopers of the New California Republic Army despite the proximity to the garrison at Hoover Dam to the east, due to anti-NCR sentiments among his laborer customers leading to frequent bar brawls that have caused the military higher-ups to prohibit soldiers from going there.[2]

Around October 2281, Ike's business took another hit after the operations at Quarry Junction were interrupted by an infestation of deathclaws, halting production and consequently the workers' wage prospects.[3] Despite the slim pickings, Ike has thus far remained beholden to his establishment, refusing to close his doors and move on.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 Ike is set to use the same merchant container as Trudy in Goodsprings. This means that any items sold by/to Ike will be taken from/appear in Trudy's inventory as well. Most importantly, this means the amount of caps he carries is directly linked to Trudy.[verified]
    • This can be exploited by the player to transfer items across the map for later pickup, acting like an unofficial Mojave Express dropbox.
  • PCPC If one kills Ike with the Mister Sandman perk in his bed in the Big Horn Saloon, his voice will still complain about the player character stealing his lever-action shotgun and ammunition.[verified]
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 Sometimes, when completing the unmarked quest Claws Out, Ike disappears but the workers will be inside the bar.[verified]

Ike: "The workers here don't much like the military. After too many fights and broken noses, the NCR doesn't allow troops to spend time here. That doesn't stop a few people like yourself, of course. Don't worry, I won't say a word."

  3. The Courier: "Where does the concrete come from?"
Ike: "Most of the limestone comes from Quarry Junction out west, but I hear some Deathclaws overran the quarry. With no work to be had, all the workers around here have wandered off. I'm the only one left in town."

  4. The Courier: "Where does the concrete come from?"
Ike: "Most of the limestone comes from Quarry Junction out west. The supply had stopped for awhile because of a Deathclaw problem. I heard some badass wastelander killed the Deathclaws, and deliveries of limestone have been coming in again. I don't think they've gotten the trains up and running yet, but most of the concrete plant workers have come back to town now. Good for business."

  5. Ike: "Howdy, trooper. I thought the Big Horn was off limits to you guys, but who am I to complain? A customer is a customer."
The Courier: "I'm not a trooper. I just happen to be wearing the armor."
Ike: "Oh. Well, you'd better not let any of the real troopers hear that - and, of course, they won't be hearing it from me, neither. So, what brings you to Boulder City? Not many people come here."
    (Ike's dialogue)
  6. Ike: "Hope those Great Khans don't come trash my saloon. I'm not part of the NCR!"
