Hot plates can be used as Rock-It Launcher ammunition.

Hot plates can be found throughout the Capital Wasteland, usually in laboratories or other places that house scientific equipment.
- Hot plates can often be purchased from vendors who carry junk items, such as Crazy Wolfgang and Moira Brown.
- 11 in the Tenpenny Tower suite with the Science theme.
- Six in the Fort Independence's lower level, science lab.
- Four in My Megaton house with the Science theme.
- Two in Vault 101, during Escape!, in the medical room and the class room.
- Four in the Jefferson Museum and Gift Shop (before Broken Steel).
- Two in the recently built shack.
- Two in the Memorial sub-basement (before Broken Steel).
- Two in the Rivet City science lab, one on a table and one in the bunk area.
- Two in the Midship Deck, one in the Capitol Preservation Society, another on a table near the science lab exit.
