Oh crap. Oh man. They weren't lyin'. It wasn't a story. There really is a... a thing down here. Thought my mask was broken, and some kinda gas lead was gettin' in... Then I smelled it. Nearly puked up in my damn suit! Pretty sure I... woke it up... Found some of that ore but when I hit it, it wasn't rock, it was... fleshy? Then came the noise, Jesus that noise... Thought it was an earthquake til I saw it. (heavy breathing) shit... SHIT! The wall moved, and had a mouth. Damn near pissed my pants! I don't care if that Ultracite stuff is down there. Oh God no-

Notes[]

The holotape is removed from the player character's inventory upon speaking to Pete Myers at the end of What Slept Beneath.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The holotape has no named speaker in the subtitles, however, its narrator is voiced by Stephen Russell.
  • It is unclear if the narrator of this holotape is intended to be Jack Woodhouse.
    • In his journal, he describes finding a holotape on July 24, saying, "Some crazy story about some monster in the mines. Gotta be something they made up to scare off the locals." This describes the contents of the holotape.
    • However, both the holotape narrator and Jack were apparently mining for ultracite, and the narrator says "It wasn't a story."
    • Additionally, the voice type used in the holotape is "NWOT_NPCM_ExRaider." The editor ID of Jack's corpse is "NWOT_Beneath_ExRaider_Corpse," both IDs containing the phrase "ex-raider," which describes Jack.
    • The quest log for What Slept Beneath describes it as "a holotape recording of an ex-Blood Eagle's encounter with the monster Pete has been seeing," directly tying the holotape's narration to Jack.
    • In spite of this, there is no other holotape found that would fit the description of what Jack discovered on July 24, as he only reached the mine shaft and encountered the Ultracite Titan in September.
  • To resolve this, it is possible that Jack simply recorded over the previous contents of the July 24 holotape to record his September encounter with the Ultracite Titan.
