Hogarth Hendricks was a member of a group of settlers in the Shenandoah Visitor Center in Fallout 76, introduced in the Skyline Valley update. He is the only known victim of the Scorched Plague outside the main six regions of Appalachia.
Background[]
Hendricks was part of a group of ten people who arrived at Shenandoah National Park from Washington, D.C. around early 2104 and settled at the Shenandoah Visitor Center. In November of that year, he went with Skirving and Redwood on a scouting trip to Watoga, where they were caught in a crossfire between super mutants and the Scorched. During the fighting, Hendricks breathed in some of the gases released by a Scorchbeast, becoming infected by the Scorched Plague (a threat not known to the settlers at that time).
All three managed to make it back to Shenandoah, but by that point Hendricks had detoriated to near death. He was brought into the clinic in the visitor center basement, where he quickly succumbed to the plague and turned into a Scorched, attacking and choking the group's doctor, Glenn MacLeod. MacLeod managed to survive by grabbing a Stimpak and stabbing the Scorched Hendricks in the eye, killing him. MacLeod subsequently placed the clinic under quarantine, and Hendricks' corpse (and the Stimpak that killed him) were left behind when the group fled Shenandoah in 2105 due to the freak change in weather.[1]
