Background
Born as David Henry Thoreau, he grew up in Concord and attended Harvard University, where he began to call himself Henry Thoreau. From 1845 to 1847, he moved to a small cabin on the shore of Walden Pond, studying transcendentalism and eventually writing a book on his findings and experiences.[1] The cabin he stayed in remains preserved over 400 years later, next to a gift shop sponsored by General Atomics International. Some of his works were published by Ticknor and Fields, based out of the Old Corner Bookstore in Boston.[2]
