The Heavy incinerator (Broken Steel) is a weapon which is added to Fallout 3 with the Broken Steel add-on. It is equipped by Enclave Hellfire Troopers.

Characteristics

  • The Incinerator works like a mortar, lobbing projectile blasts of fire at the target in an arc. These blasts of fire have slight splash damage, and obviously set the enemy on fire.
  • It's interesting to note that the Incinerator shoots one shot per fuel used, and shoots these much like a rifle, while being auto-fire in V.A.T.S. mode.
  • The Heavy Incinerator can be fired extremely long distances with relatively good accuracy; it can even be effectively fired across the Potomac River to hit enemies on the other side.
  • Contrary to popular belief, the Heavy Incinerator IS fully automatic outside of VATS (and still very effective when used in this manner)
  • This weapon is incredibly powerful, able to cripple limbs with ease. With the Pyromaniac perk, Psycho and Yao Guai Meat, this weapon can easily make short work of almost any enemy, even Albino Radscorpions.

Notes

  • It can be picked up from an Enclave Hellfire Trooper through the Shock Value quest in the Old Olney S. Wilson Building.
  • The Heavy Incinerator, like most fire based weapons benefits from the Pyromaniac Perk.
  • During the quest "Take it Back!", Enclave Hellfire trooper's armed with this weapon may appear. Sarah Lyons may acquire the weapon during the course of the mission after the trooper in question dies.
  • In V.A.T.S. you fire three shots per selection but your ammo only goes down 1 per selection
  • This weapon is close to silent, and will not alert enemies that are mid to long range from you.
  • In contrast to other flamethrowers, the heavy incinerator actually throws the flames.
  • The Heavy Incinerator does not show up on your back in third-person view. When you take it out, it will have the animation of equipping a flamer, but it will just appear in your hands when the animation begins to draw your hands back forward. This is true for many Big Guns in Fallout 3.
  • The appearance of the Heavy Incinerator is closer to that of the original Flamer than the Fallout 3 Flamer is.
  • If an NPC has a Heavy Incinerator equipped but holstered, it creates a slope that allows the PC to run up and over the NPC.
  • NPCs have serious friendly-fire issues when equipped with this weapon, as (unlike with hitscan weapons) they will continue to shoot even if an ally runs through their line of fire. It's not unusual to see Enclave Hellfire Troopers set their allies aflame, and the player's own NPC Companions may end up shooting the player or innocent bystanders in the back and set them on fire if given this weapon.
  • Warning: Just having the heavy incinerator in your hands is enough to ignite gas leaks
  • If you have the Pyromaniac, Superior Defender and Ghoul Ecology perks, this weapon can will have a damage rating of 210 (205 against non-ghouls) in perfect condition.
  • This weapon has the ability to damage enemies under water when firing from above the water surface.
  • This weapon is also incredibly fun to use if you're the evil type. Aim to the sky and fire, and a hail of flame will bombard the area of your choice, assuming you aimed it correctly. Try wiping out Split Jack and his gang from behind the small cliff with this and have fun!
  • The heavy incinerator is similar in range and capabilities to true napalm weapons, with the exception of using projectile fire balls instead of streams of burning napalm.

Bugs

  • Sometimes there will be no firing sound for this weapon (confirmed: 360)
