Harold is a ghoul from Quincy and a Brotherhood of Steel recruit.

Background[]

Harold loves explosives of all forms, from grenades to traps, followed by the smell of cordite, and the dull thump of an underground detonation. He can throw, plant, and disarm any kind, and is nicknamed "Unbreakable": Despite several severe incidents, he's over a hundred years old and just refuses to die.[1]

He has a small tree growing on his head.[2]

Recruit[]

  • Harold becomes available for recruitment after Mardin, only if the Warrior has helped the ghouls in Quincy.
  • Harold has some notable deviations from the rules, and is in some ways an incredibly powerful character:
    • He has two more SPECIAL points than rules would dictate.
    • Starting at level 11, Harold has four perks, despite being a ghoul with a Perk Rate of 4 (and thus having twice the perks a normal ghoul character would have; normally, he'd only have four at level 16). The trade-off is that the perks are Die Hard, Rad Child, Bonsai, and Way of the Fruit. Bonsai is non-functional and the rest provide limited benefits.
    • At level 12, he gains a fifth perk, which can be used to take Mutate! in order to replace Skilled with Gifted, gaining seven SPECIAL points without losing the skill points from Skilled, for a total of nine extra SPECIAL points. He lacks the Fast Shot trait, necessary for an optimal throwing build, however.
    • Harold also has four tagged skills, with the standard being three without Tag! In fact, Harold can select Tag! on subsequent level ups, giving a total of five tagged skills (and unlike perks, all are viable choices).
    • Harold already has 10 points in Big Guns, but has otherwise only spent points in tagged skills, making it a good contender for the Tag! perk.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The character is an obvious nod to Harold, though beyond the name there's next to no resemblance: He has a completely different portrait with two functioning eyes and a much less monstrous appearance, has no unique dialogue, and his character description doesn't match what's known about Harold: He is an explosives expert[1] from Quincy, who earned the nickname "Unbreakable,"[1] none of which is known to be true of the Harold who met the Vault Dweller. However, he has a tree growing out of his head.[2]
  • A cut holotape titled Prophecy concerns Saint Harold of the Leafy Scalp, which is a much more direct reference.

Appearances[]

This Harold appears only in Fallout Tactics.
