Greenetech Genetics is a location in the Commonwealth in 2287.

Background[]

The building features the remains of the C.I.T.'s Greenetech building, where genetic manipulation and other secret experiments occurred.[Non-game 1] In recent years, it became the site of a Gunners salvage operation, recovering scrap material and usable components from the derelict building.[1]

By 2287, a courser hunting a runaway synth has arrived and killed many of the Gunners stationed throughout the building. When the Sole Survivor arrives, the remaining Gunners are engaged in an ongoing battle with the courser.

Layout[]

The building cannot be accessed before the quest Hunter/Hunted; the door is blocked by rubble until then.

First floor[]

It contains a small reception area with broken stairs to some catwalks on the second floor. To the north are functional stairs leading to the second floor. There is also a lobby to the west that is only accessible from the second floor. There's an unlocked terminal on the ground level of this western lobby that controls some nearby turrets.

Second floor[]

It contains catwalks that lead west to a hallway with some offices, which curls around to stairs going up.

Third floor[]

It contains bathrooms in the northeast corner, and offices to the north holding an issue of the Massachusetts Surgical Journal. A ramp on the southwest side leads to the next floor.

Fourth floor[]

It contains a Novice-locked terminal that controls some turrets, followed by a catwalk that leads across to the east side and into a lab area and kitchen. Past the kitchen is a Novice-locked door that leads to a small armory with a trapped chest. Down the hall is another ramp leading up.

Fifth floor[]

It starts in a lab area. To the north are a couple of offices, one of which holds a Stealth Boy. To the west is a catwalk that crosses to the other side of the lobby, with a hallway leading to offices on the north side and back around to the east side and the stairs to the next floor.

Sixth floor[]

It consists of a trapped stairwell to the seventh floor.

Seventh floor[]

It contains a lab area with a Novice-locked security control terminal, with an Advanced-locked door to the west revealing an Expert-locked safe accessible by a nearby Novice-locked terminal. To the south is a room with stairs going up and an elevator to the eighth floor, with a couple of small storage rooms just above.

Eighth floor[]

Immediately outside the elevator, there will be a Master-locked terminal that opens a security door to a central caged area with two fusion cores. On the other side of the room, just before the stairs, is an Advanced-locked door accessible by an Advanced-locked terminal that leads to a room with another fusion core.

Ninth floor[]

It contains a pair of Novice-locked terminals leading to minor loot inside rooms. Through the door to the south, stairs to the southwest lead to a desk with a broken terminal and a small caps stash next to it. The stairs to the south lead up to the top floor.

Top floor[]

The top floor is an open area with a side room that is locked during the Hunter/Hunted quest and stairs leading up to the roof. There is a Fat Man on the stairs landing on top of a trunk, and a mini nuke under the stairs.

Roof[]

An ammo box and a skeleton are found on the roof.

Notable loot[]

  • Massachusetts Surgical Journal issue #13 - On the third floor, on a small white table between two large red couches against the midpoint of the north wall. (Note: there may be a glitch that causes the HUD compass to point in the wrong direction while wearing power armor.)
  • Stealth Boy - On the fifth floor, on a table along with up to five missiles in a room in the northeast corner.
  • Overdue book - On the fifth floor, on a small table between two chairs before heading up to the sixth floor.
  • Three fusion cores - Two are on the eighth floor, behind a gate controlled by a Master-locked terminal right after exiting the elevator. The third is also on the eighth floor, on a table next to a microscope in a room behind an Advanced-locked door right after the above-mentioned two fusion cores.
  • Fat Man - On the top floor, on the stairs to the roof.
  • Mini nuke - On the top floor, under the stairs with the Fat Man.
  • Greenetech Genetics password - On the top floor, in the red toolbox. Accesses the nearby terminal that unlocks the side room holding K1-98.
  • Nuka-Cherry - One in small office area, around the corner.
  • Pulse mine - Armed, top floor, near a door.
  • Cryo mine - Two armed ones, on an overpass bridge in the south.

Notes[]

  • On the third floor, in the restrooms to the northeast are wooden blocks on the floor behind the stall doors that spell "Gary", a reference to Vault 108 in Fallout 3.
  • On the fifth floor, there is a blackboard with three bullet holes in it. Below the bullet holes are old, dried bloodstains. To the side are three chalk Xs, just as seen on the Fens Phantom's displays in the Fens Street sewer.
  • On the fifth floor, on a console desk are some wooden blocks (I & D and B & Y), an eight ball, and a knife and fork. They spell out I 8 U.

Appearances[]

Greenetech Genetics appears only in Fallout 4.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC If one has completed the Hunter/Hunted quest, the local cell (comprising an area of a few blocks surrounding Greenetech Genetics) may become bugged so that when entering that area, the game crashes. It does not matter which direction one approaches from. To work around this bug, while walking at ground level, determine the exact threshold of the crash, then save, turn around, look straight at the ground, and move backward while looking at the ground. This may allow the player character to bypass the bug, but if they enter any building in the bugged area, they will not be able to exit via the building's door; the player must instead use coc to teleport to another desired location.[verified]
  • PCPC Another issue concerning Greenetech is that items keep spawning under the building just east of Greenetech, possibly resulting in lag, stutters, and crashes. It is advisable to save your game before trying to fix this bug with the following method: by using tcl and diving under the building just east of Greenetech, one may find spawned cars, walls, trees, junk piles, and random items bunched up one on top of another, with sometimes dozens or possibly a hundred items spawned one in another. By clicking on the items one by one and using disable followed by markfordelete, it is possible to remove these items from the game and thereby fix any related lag/stutters/crashes. After several hours of game time, one may need to repeat this process if the issues recur.[verified]
