Golden geckos are creatures found in Mojave Wasteland. They are like the other geckos of the region, but with shiny golden scales.

Characteristics

Golden Geckos have been affected by high levels of radiation, and as such, when they attack you, you will accumulate between 14 and 20 rads. Upon killing a Golden Gecko, you can find a Golden Gecko Hide, Golden Gecko egg, Golden Gecko meat, which can all be sold for a higher price than its normal Gecko counterparts. There are a large number of Golden Geckos in and around the tunnel near Vault 34 and in and around Crescent Canyon West and Crescent Canyon East. They are smaller than humans, run very fast, and open their mouths wide while running in for an attack. Geckos wont attack you if you have the Animal Friend perk. Gecko's occaisionally go into a frenzied attack when striking, resulting in anywhere between 3-5 rapid attacks, each doing significant damage and radiation poisoning, blocking with a melee weapon appears to only slow the attacks, use the opportunity to interrupt. Two of them protect the Holy Frag Grenades

Appearances

Golden geckos appear in Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 2.

Bugs

Using a grenade machine gun on Golden Geckos will not kill them. Their health bar will deplete, but they are still alive and will still attack when the bar is empty. Even attacking through V.A.T.S will not kill them, but V.A.T.S will display their health bar as being full.

  • Upon death, they will make the same noise as a Giant rat. [verification needed]
