Giddyup Buttercup is a line of a robotic toy horses manufactured by Wilson Atomatoys before the Great War.
Background[]
Invented by 2042,[1] the Giddyup Buttercup was Wilson Atomatoys' flagship product and became a smash hit on the market, eventually bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue per annum, despite its excessive price tag ($16,000 per unit).[2] Brand recognition for the Giddyup Buttercup remained strong even in 2287.[3]
However, by the fourth quarter of 2077, forecasts indicated sales of the Giddyup Buttercup would decline from $122,000,000 to $110,000,000, a year-over-year loss of 17%. Wilson Atomatoys cited brand stagnation and market saturation at the current price point as reasons for the continuing decline.[2] However, company CEO Marc Wilson had ordered the forecasts to be manipulated,[4] using this as justification for turning to the U.S. government's secretive SCYTHE Program, converting part of the local Atomatoys factory to produce landmines in preparation for a mass military mobilization during the Sino-American War.[5]
In the Mothership Zeta add-on, the aliens are shown to have an unusual fascination with the toy, possessing over a hundred of them stacked on racks in the research lab. Several of the smaller Buttercup toys can be found throughout the ship as well.
Characteristics[]
Touted as the "ultimate in equestrian robotics," the toy aimed to bring little girls' dreams of owning a pony to life while requiring very little maintenance.[6] The metal toy horses were programmed to emulate the behavior of a live horse.[7]
Variants[]
Giddyup Buttercup (white)[]

A white variant of the Giddyup Buttercup, with yellow hair for the mane and tail. Many of these are in possession of the Zetan aliens. Alien captive recorded log 21 features Sally being taken to the recording room and noticing a Giddyup Buttercup. The aliens are described as being excited, either by her recognition of it or by her happy reaction.
Giddyup Buttercup (yellow)[]

A yellow variant found through the Commonwealth and Appalachia. It also appears in Fallout Shelter as a legendary junk item.
Buttercup toy[]
A miniature version of the white Giddyup Buttercup is also found onboard Zeta. A miniature yellow variant is given by Arlen Glass as a reward for bringing him Marlene's holotape from Arlen's office at the Wilson Atomatoys corporate HQ.
