A giant centipede scurries out from underneath some garbage. Disgusting!— Pre-Battle introduction text

Giant centipedes are an enemy in the Wastelad holotape minigame.

Biology[]

A gruesome child of radiation, giant centipedes are one of the many dangers facing wasteland explorers. A hairy, leggy insect, with a pair of huge pincers, giant centipedes are the epitome of sickening mutation. Their long, flexible tails are tipped with a pair of wretched, clawlike barbs.

Possessing two normal fangs and an over-exaggerated pair of external fangs, their bite is definitely worse than their bark.

Despite being derived from normal centipede DNA, the giant centipede only has 8 legs, like an arachnid.

Notes[]

  • The giant centipede is the weakest enemy in game, with enough HP to be easily killed in one attack.
  • On the cover of the Wasteland issue of RobCo Fun, the giant centipede could be seen in the background.
  • Nearly every enemy in Wastelad visually evokes a design from previous Fallout games by Bethesda. However, the giant centipede appears to foreshadow the Gigapede from Winter of Atom by Modiphius. Not only do they share an identical premise, but their designs are strikingly similar.
    • There might be an intentional irony in the giant centipede being cast as the weakest creature in Wastelad, while the Gigapede is the most powerful creature in Winter of Atom, and perhaps the most invulnerable and destructive creature in the Fallout setting.
    • A giant centipede also dominates the cover of Astoundingly Awesome Tales #10, an illustration originally produced for Fallout 4, but this design bears less of a resemblance to the actual creature.

Appearances[]

Giant centipedes appear only in Wastelad.
