In the crafting requirements or when previewing the scrapping of items, the crafting resource is called just "gear", but actually this item called "gears" is produced from scrapping and is used in crafting.

An uncommon component used for a variety of applications. Commonly used to build turrets and gun mods. Loose gears cannot be sold to vendors, however gear yielding junk or Bulk gears can be sold to vendors for caps.
