The Gauley River is an unmarked location, a river running through Appalachia.

Background[edit | edit source]

Before the Great War, a reservoir known as Summersville Lake was created by the building of the Summersville Dam on the Gauley River. In 2082, raider David Thorpe destroyed the dam, letting the reservoir flood, swelling the banks of the river through the nearby city of Charleston in what would be called the Christmas Flood. Afterward, the reservoir became a dry lake bed, and a stream is all that remains of the Gauley River.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

The Gauley River appears only in Fallout 76.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The Gauley River is based on the real world river of the same name in West Virginia. It is a tributary of the Ohio River, similarly impounded by Summersville Lake.
