This quest cannot be started until after completing the four previous quests, River Monsters, The Advance Scouts, The Grand Staircase, and The Treacherous Road; check each quest's article page for details on completing them. Upon completing the last of the four, this quest will automatically trigger.
Upon returning to Daniel in the Narrows after finalizing preparations for his plan to evacuate the Sorrows from Zion Canyon, he expresses that he knows the Courier has heard about Joshua's desire to go on the offensive against the White Legs and states that, while he hopes for their support with his evacuation plan, like Joshua he ultimately gives the choice to them. One will then receive a message indicating that making the next choice will irreversibly start the ending quest of Honest Hearts.
One will then have two choices with Daniel that will determine the subsequent quest and ending to take place:
Side with Daniel and agree to help the Sorrows flee Zion. Choosing this option triggers the quest Flight from Zion.
Side with Joshua Graham and agree to attack the White Legs. Choosing this option triggers the quest Crush the White Legs.
This quest will automatically complete upon making the choice. Waking Cloud will also permanently leave as a companion, and the non-chosen quest and associated achievement will thus become unavailble.
