Detailed walkthrough[]

When first speaking with Julie Farkas of the Followers of the Apocalypse at the Old Mormon Fort in Freeside, asking about the state of affairs in Freeside brings her to list ongoing issues in the Followers' operations, including dwindling supplies and no means to replenish them. One can offer to help, for which she requests finding a local vendor willing to make a trade deal with the Followers as well as bringing her any chems supplies they can spare to cover immediate medical needs in the fort.

  • For the former, comprising the unmarked quest Long-Term Care, the only one of Julie's suggested vendors that will advance the quest is James Garret at the Atomic Wrangler Casino; James typically stands behind the bar counter from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. One will not need to pass any skill check to convince him to strike a deal with the Followers, only choose dialogue options to emphasize the value of cooperation between both groups. Next, take the news of James' interest to Julie, once again not needing any skill checks to convince her that the Garrets' seedy reputation should not belay their ability to assist in the Followers' efforts through an exchange of supplies for services tending to the Wrangler's moonshine stills. Next, bring word of Julie's blessings to James to confirm that the Followers will receive the first supply shipment soon. Return one more time to Julie to complete this quest, garnering Followers fame.
  • For the latter, comprising the unmarked quest Short-Term Treatment, one must give up samples of Med-X, RadAway or Fixer to Julie, for a total of 10 of one type. Immediately giving the full 10 donations is not required, but rather a donation of 9 (in 3 sets of 3) of one type allows for getting the most amount of Followers fame during this quest. Once the 10th sample of one type of chem is donated, completing the quest, Julie will remark that their stockpile of said chem is plentiful enough to start mass-producing, and as a reward for the player character's help, she will offer to sell them skill magazines as well as give a discount on medical services (her inventory will spawn several copies of Programmer's Digest and Today's Physician, some copies of Lad's Life, Salesman Weekly and at least one Meeting People), garnering Followers fame.

After successfully improving the Followers' supply lines in Freeside, the final task is to achieve an Idolized reputation with the Followers if not already gained via the above quests; see their section on the reputations page for details on garnering more Followers fame. Upon becoming Idolized, speak with Julie again (possibly by exiting conversation once the above quests are completed and talking to her again) and she will thank the Courier again for their help and extend an offer to let them officially join the Followers of the Apocalypse. Accepting will garner 300 XP, the Followers lab coat, and the key to access the Followers safehouse north of Vault 22 as player character housing.

Notes[]

  • As the final step of this quest is to become Idolized by the Followers, it is advisable to speak with Julie to start the side quest High Times concurrently if one's reputation is still not at the threshold.
  • Even if one already has an Idolized reputation with the Followers, Julie will not offer the option to join them until they have made the supply deal with the Garrets and fulfilled the donations requirement during this quest.
  • Completing this quest by helping the Followers will result in a Speech check no longer being required to recruit Arcade Gannon as a companion.
  • Although Julie suggests that the player character talk to Mick and Ralph for creating a supply deal, it is unnecessary as they will always refuse the deal. She also mentions the Crimson Caravan Company as a possible supplier, but there is no dialogue options related to this quest with any faction members.
  • For Short-Term Treatment, sometimes one must donate well over 20 chems, depending on their Followers reputation. The outcome of the side quest That Lucky Old Sun can markedly impact the player character's Followers reputation, and a choice that provides little or no Followers reputation will mean the player character will need to donate more chems to increase their reputation.
  • Julie will resupply the magazines she sells each time the player character tells her they have medical supplies to donate.
