The following is based on Van Buren design documents and is not canon. |
The freeze gun is a weapon that was to appear in Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios.
Characteristics
A prototype weapon that can be constructed by the Mechanic Boy. Once assembled, the gun works great against any armor since it super-freezes joints and moving parts. As such, the gun is effective against robots as well as the New California Republic (NCR) personnel. The gun will not necessarily kill a foe, but it will render it immobile, giving the Prisoner an uncontested turn against the crippled enemy.[1][2] It can freeze enemies and runs on cryo energy.
The player character will need to get parts for it to get it to work again though. S.O.R.-1000 Alpha, a robot which can be acquired as a follower, can assemble it if provided with the parts.
Components
All components can be found aboard Ballistic Orbital Missile Base 001.[1][2]
- Freeze gun schematics, found on a work table in the maintenance room.
- Freezer coils, found in fridge freezer the kitchen.
- Water and containers, found in the bathroom.
- Crushed crystal, found inside the TV in the recreational room.
- Power source, found by looting S.O.R.-1000 Beta or S.O.R.-1000 Delta.
- The remainder parts are found in the maintenance room.
Location
The freeze gun can be assembled in the maintenance room of the Ballistic Orbital Missile Base 001[1] with a Mechanics or Science skill greater than 100.[2]
Behind the scenes
A similar gun called the Cryolater was going to appear in Fallout 3, but was cut from the final version of the game. It was later added in Fallout 4, under the same name of Cryolator.
