:This isn't the feeling and hugs wiki but I would hope that the users here would have enough sense to just treat others as they wish to be treated. Did he really frustrate you Jasper? Made you lose brain cells and all of that good stuff? Part of your position is being able to calmly deal with all sorts of users. Whether or not Journey was annoying to you isn't the matter, it was how it was dealt with. He didn't do anything in bad faith. Maybe you should reconsider your approach or something, because it isn't a good feeling when the moderation doesn't feel obligated to treat someone with a modicum of decency. --[[User:TwoBearsHigh-Fiving|TwoBearsHigh-Fiving]] [[File:Intercom01.png|x20px|link=User talk:TwoBearsHigh-Fiving]] 02:23, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

::I don't think "not wanting to hurt someone;s feelings" is a reason just to let someone run around and piss on the walls. Journey was not productive to have in chat and was actually kind of an issue considering his random and irrelevant way of talking was disruptive and spam like. If someone wants to be treated with respect they should act respectable.

People can treat me however they want. If someone wants to point out how my idiotic comments are idiotic they can go right ahead and if I ever say "I changed my avi to a shroomish because I like shroomish" they can call me a retard 'till the cows come home. End of the day, I treat people based on how they act. Journey acted like a child who eats glue for run so I treat and consider him as such.<br>

Hey everyone, You may or may not know me from a previous time ago but here are something I thought you should look at and then take a look at yourselves as "valued editors". I may call you or other editors out but I think this needs to be addressed.

  • First off, I keep coming here looking at the edits and laughing. Not at the editors or the edits but at the lapse in common sense. I mean why ban someone for a 1 week for "adding racist remarks" or Vandalism when you know they are up to no good? Why not just permanently ban them? Because they may become "valued editors"? The heck if! They came here to be vandals and that's all they will be. On the racism here...Permanently ban them. there is no need for racism...AT ALL. No prejudice, no racism, and no sexism.
  • Secondly, in Chat there is a lot of bull that happens there. Such as "chat mods" and "moderators" who kick or ban user for stuff they do anyways or the harassment of other "lower editors". One given case is the incident I see recently with a user called "Wasson" where he was banned for posting lyrics in chat while no one was around. As that may be against policy so is "Linking to external websites" such as Youtube or the rule "Being a Dick" which is constantly being broken by user such as Jasper. Now onto the harassment part of this...A certain user I tried to help was Journey321. Everyone seems to pick on him or harass and berate him while in chat. Now that is AGAINST the policies and guidelines. When I brought it to certain "special users" it was ignored by all but one. A good soul named Ryan AKA TwoBearsHigh-Fiving. He took me serious on this and I thank him for it. To name most the people who harassed Journey would to take way to long but you know who you are.
  • Now to those who have guessed who this is, Kudos. I'm glad someone remembers me. Other than that maybe a lot of you don't need to be "special users" because you are purely immature. Or maybe I'm wrong and this will get ridiculed, either way it's off my chest and you can deal with it however you please.

Comments

There are a lot of issues. First, permanent bans are very harsh for such an offense. They are only given to those that broke the rules several times, though usually after the (first) block they read the policies (which they should have).

About Wasson, it was a strange case, as it was informed that he spammed. Though the matter has been resolved, he still has one chance before being permanently blocked (hence the above post). Not sure what happened to the user you mentioned, but as you said, you can always discuss it with another person.

And if someone you call is immature, then I ask you this: how come those "immature" users got user rights, or even a better question: why don't those users have reconfirmation requests? Energy X 09:43, July 17, 2013 (UTC)

If you were paying half the amount of attention you act like you are then you;d also have noticed that many moderators, myself included, made sure Wasson was unbanned for that incident, so that point is kinda null and void right now. Maybe if you have an issue with how we work you could come to us in person, instead of hiding behind an IP in a forum; in tht situation I'd be happy to explain every time you feel we are being corrupt or whatever. The reason why we try to stay away from permanent bans is because IPs rotate. Every IP we permanently ban means that some day, some other possible user won't be able to access the site. So, yeah: reasons., Gunslinger The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:54, July 19, 2013 (UTC)
Maybe this isn't the place, but I would like to add onto that fact. When an account is banned, we are subsequently banning the I.P. address that it is currently originating from, which is why they can't just go and make another account to circumvent their ban without going to another computer or using a proxy server. So I've never really understood the beef against perma-banning anons, since the rotating I.P. deal can be applied to banning account-holders, as well. Well, that was my ban you're criticizing. Now, let's get it cleared up. Someone comes on here and adds some racist words to articles, I punish him yes. He sees my message, maybe thinks on it for a week. The ban is up, he'll do either of three things: Continue to Vandalize, never come on this site again, or contribute decently. Maybe not every day, but nonetheless contribute. Should he choose to vandalize again, it takes a total investment of 60 seconds of time to ban and notify him. I'd rather take the time to be courteous and not throw the user out completely and have the chance that they can become a good part of the site. In many places in the world, we have the mentality to lock up every criminal for good, well here we assume good faith, and maybe, just maybe someone will appreciate that. It makes it worth it. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 01:57, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

And I'm glad you appreciate some parts of my philosophy, I try to help everyone, because no one deserves ill treatment. If you can appreciate helping Journey, surely you can appreciate my helping anons, even guilty ones.--TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 01:59, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

Also, giving permanent blocks to registered users upon the first offence is quite simply asinine. It is direct assumption of bad faith in assuming that such an offence wasn't a one-off or due to extenuating circumstances. Your "suggestion" is equivalent to giving out death sentences for parking tickets. There are several users who have been banned before that turned out to contribute a great amount to the wiki... --Skire (talk) 02:06, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure about your agenda here. I see a lot of complaining and calling out of other users. But what I'm not seeing is any initiative. Actual ideas that you might propose to us to help improve our current systems. There is no doubt that some of our conditions around here are less optimal than intended. But that's not fixed by people whining and not taking affirmative action, instead. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 02:11, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

I'll be the first to admit I'm a prick. I'm certainly not the nicest person who ever set foot on the wiki but I'm also not the worst. I'm probably much better than some when stuff actually gets serious, sure I have a somewhat passive aggressive nature in chat but I am a mile away from a breach of the "Being a dick" rule and have stuck up for people a lot of the time. The point of that rule is to make sure we cover all bases, incase a crafty troll comes in and we can't book him for anything straight up, for bugging users instead of having straight up personal attacks against them. If a user is being seriously bothered by someone, but we can't get them for any of the other rules we have Rule 7 to make sure all our bases are covered.
Sure we could be more friendly to Journey but that would have implied that convercing with him didn't make me have a stroke. Having someone like him in the chat is like having a child running around screaming and licking things everywhere you go. Maybe if he'd have brought anything to chat that wasn't just "I changed my AVI to ice cream because I like ice cream" people may like being around him. Maybe openly expressing your distaste for someone is wrong, but it sure beats the alternative of making a forum about him instead. I don't like journey. Most regular chat goes do not like journey and I wont pretend that whenever he said some half brain dead statement I didn't want to rip my hair out and stab myself in the eyes out of fear that I could lose brain cells for reading the next thing he posted. This isn't the "feelings and hugs" wiki. We don't have to sugar coat everything we say in case it makes someone a little unhappy. I never said anything about Journey that wasn't true. If people earn my dislike then I won't hide it.
There is no point me pointing out the block issue, everyone else has already taken care of that. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 02:16, July 19, 2013 (UTC)
