With a possible announcement for Fallout 4 fast approaching it is very clear that we are going to need all hands on deck rather soon, however it is also important that we
A) have hands that are actually active
B) know how many hands we actually have.
Issue is that while we have a lot of admins and moderators/chat moderators (hence forth to be refereed to as moderators collectively) many of them are, for whatever reason, not exactly active. In this case activity has been defined as either
A) editing more than a couple of times a month, over the course of a few months
B) appearing in chat more than a couple of times a month, over the course of a few months
Inactivity isn't a matter of not making edits to articles, but a general lack of being here. While I generally have no real issue with this the approach of a possible Fallout 4 has made me think that something kind of needs to be done and personally I feel that a mass vote of no confidence and removal of rights may be the best way.

Bleep is an admin and has edited twice since the new year, most recent being 2nd of February, but prior to the new year was highly active.
He has not been in chat for a very long time as far as I have seen. Most recent appearance was upon my summoning via steam chat.

The vote is on these users keeping their rights, so a "yes" is in support of them keeping their rights and a "no" is in support of their removal

-Bleep-'s defense[]

Hi everyone,

Before I get to the reasoning behind my absence, I'm going to go ahead and make it clear that I do understand the purpose of this vote, and that I'm not going to attack the premise of removing admins/mods based on inactivity. People sometimes leave, and don't come back, people get really really preoccupied with something in their lives, and stop editing, and maybe they forget that they used to edit here, or lose their password, and just don't come back. When stuff like that happens, when users leave the wiki because they feel like the environment is no longer right for them, removing their rights becomes important. It frees up space for new editors that come in, especially that that are willing and able to learn.

So what are the reasons behind my absence? Well, I'd love to say it was simple, I'd love to say that I was indisposed with a single item but it's not quite that simple. The past academic year has been tough on me, I am a microbiology major, and I really started to get into my upper level 300 and 400 classes this past year. STEM majors, especially in the Engineering and Natural sciences take incredibly intense and demanding courses throughout the extent of their collegiate careers, but the Sophomore and Junior years are hands down the toughest. On top of this I was also working in a research lab, valuable experience that is integral to my future in my field as well as mentoring freshmen students as part of a living and learning program. The past two semesters, verbatum, have been roughly waking up, studying/going to class, going to the lab, coming home and studying more, maybe fit in a meal or two somewhere inbetween, and then head to bed. Outside of texting one or two people my general interactions with anyone outside my family or closest circle of friends was virtually zero.

So why should I keep my rights? Well that's hard to answer, some of those who vote on these recalls will not have been here long enough to see what I can do. I have pioneered/heavily contributed to many aspects and projects on the wiki, from re-categorizing weapons and items to pioneering the bug verification project as well as setting in solid stone our bug policies. More importantly, at least I believe, is that I keep coming back. This is not my first leave of absence, albeit this one was more unexpected than the last, and each time I have gone inactive for a few months I always come back. I come back because I love this wiki, because I've put hours upon hours into editing, and doing my best to help create a friendly, high quality, and educational environment for any and all who visit us. Whether they be a new editor or just someone wanting to see how to do a quest. I intend to pick up my editing again over the course of the summer as well as increase my presence in chat and in the community, in order to compensate for my absence over the course of the past year. I should add that this will remain true even if I am not allowed to keep my rights, as I am still inherently tied here by my love of this series, and this wiki. ---bleep196- (talk) 22:49, May 1, 2015 (UTC)

Just to point out a minor error, the poll does not specify whether a yes vote is for removal of rights or retaining rights. Unless I missed something.--Kingclyde (talk) 04:23, May 4, 2015 (UTC)

Well the question is "are we reconfirming him" i.e. are we confirming him again, so I'm pretty sure that a yes is in support of him. I did have that on the main forum, but forgot to move it over to here. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 04:26, May 4, 2015 (UTC)

Oh yeah. Duh. I guess I did miss something. Maybe I need sleep. Zzzzz... --Kingclyde (talk) 04:28, May 4, 2015 (UTC)

This vote is now with us Bureaucrats for consideration. Agent c (talk) 02:16, May 11, 2015 (UTC)

Votes of confidence may be called in a forum by the community at any time. Votes of confidence are non-binding and must follow all normal policy vote guidelines. A minimum of three petitioners must bring forth the vote of confidence. Like any user-rights request, bureaucrats will adjudicate the results of votes of confidence.

The approach we've decided to take is as follows.

  • For those who have clear votes of no confidence against them, rights will be removed.
  • For those who have seen votes in favour, we note that many of the votes appear to be based on the promise of the user to return. We intend to hold these users to that promise. A month after the announcement of the next Fallout game we will review the situation of those who have promised to return.
  • Those that have made good on that promise will of course see no action.
  • If a user has not lived up to this commitment we will review their situation. This doesn't necessarily mean that rights will be removed (but it is an option), but could mean lesser action such as a further vote, a request for the user to state their intentions, etc. All circumstances will be considered before any action is taken.
