So I'm completing the game except this time I'm backing the NCR (already completed the game backing House, YesMan and Legion). I picked up You'll Know It When It Happens quest at the dam where you're suppose to protect the president. I picked up the quest from Colonel Moore of the NCR. The quest states "Report to Ranger Grant". Ranger Grant is in the Visitors Centre behind the desk facing three other Rangers. When I talk to Ranger Grant all he says is "We've got a lot to do to prepare for the President's visit and not much time". The only option to choose is 'Goodbye'. When I did the House and YesMan endings this mission was pretty straightforward, but now I've come across this problem. Is there something I'm supposed to do or is this a bug and I'm screwed.

Go around the long desk and talk to him. I had the same problem when trying to talk to him with the desk in between. Went around it got very close and it worked. 99.229.39.184 17:03, November 6, 2010 (UTC)

No luck. I've been so close to him when I clicked on him to talk I could've licked the crumbs from his mustache. I was actually pushing him around the room that's how close I was, but it's still the same old same old. 99.229.39.184 17:03, November 6, 2010 (UTC)

Same thing happened with me, never could get past the same point you talked about. I just assumed it was yet another bug in this bug infested game. But now the cat above says to smell the rangers breath but you say it didn't work. Three more days till Black Ops, yeah.Rainyday999 12:44, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

I can testify that 95% of the times i was stuck on quest complets or dialog options that waiting for whatever period of time solved . Sometimes its waitng from day to night, sometimes just an hour, other times its been 2-3 days need to elapse.....you never know but its worth a shot

You can't wait during the quest, so that is out of the question, but another bug is that after taking the redundant failsafe detonator to Grant, the quest still tells you to Protect Kimball.

I had the same problem, I'm with Yes Man, told me to save the president, and the ranger just let me say Good bye. What I did was Kill him with console, which makes you fail the quest, then resurrected him, talk to him and through console I reseted "you know it when it happens". I talked with the ranger again and worked. The quests restarts when you spend the day in the dam and Grant speaks to you again.

I am having the same problem. I will try waiting and killing and reseting. It's kind of weird to have all the cleaning, bashed patches, unofficial patches, and still get a bug that is so persistent --MutualExclusion (talk) 14:14, January 5, 2015 (UTC).

For me I just killed Grant in the console and immediately revived him after a second of being dead. Try to do it as quickly as possible. It did not end the quest for me because of this and Grant initiated the conversation we are looking for after he revived. If anyone is still struggling, I have found a solution. Go to your mod manager, disable all of your mods. Reload a previous save (mine was from the strip) then fast travel to the dam. As you approach, the guy should start to talk to you. Once the conversation is done you can reload all of your mods again. I tested it twice and it worked both times, I even tested one with full mods on in between to see if it would still not work and it didn't work when I had the mods installed. 16/02/2021 19:05 GMT+0 akyaren
