* I just want to point out that if this kinda thing was applied before, like, about 4 or 5 months ago, the very creator of this post would have been banned along with many other active users and it would never have reached the position of bureaucrat. Recently, there has been a few instances in which the extent of the Nukapedia moderators' authority and where we do and where we don't moderate has been called into question. Mainly, this is regarding Personal Messages (PMs), but also other Discord servers.

Currently our chat rules state this regarding the issue:

"If you are the owner/moderator of another server, keep a firm boundary between moderation of your server and discussion here. Discussion of role changes, bans, warnings, etc relating to your server in our rooms will be treated as a cross wiki issue."

PMs are never mentioned, the rules therefore only extend to the Nukapedia Discord server. This means we have no authority over what happens in PMs and we are not to act on anything that happens. But should we? Should we have rules that allow us to do so? In that case, on what issues would we act on? And with our current rules, when does PMs ever become our problem, if ever?

Yesterday we saw an incident in which four users were banned from the chat, only one of which were directly trolling in the server. The three other were deemed complicit for having done the same in PMs. It is obvious they were acting in cahoots. Were the bans justified or not, if so why?

I'm inviting everyone to a formal discussion here. If needed, we can move to a vote on possibly adding something to or removing something from the rules. --DisgustingWastelander (talk) 16:40, March 21, 2019 (UTC)

  • I have very little skin in the game, but as staff, I'll share my best practices for this: If you don't want PMs from a server, disable the setting. If people need to contact an admin or mod, there should be an on-server channel for it. Cheers. - MisterWoodhouse (talk) 16:45, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
  • I warned about the antics of one of the banned users before and I was utterly ignored regarding what eventually became a reality, therefore, I'll stand a neutral position towards these type of incidents. That doesn't mean I'm not willing to talk with fellow community members regarding this issue. Dragão Carmesim Red hammer and sickle 16:48, March 21, 2019 (UTC)

Come back in two days and we'll talk about bans, plus, funny coming from a guy who spams porn in the community central and OG account was Global Banned. Dragão Carmesim Red hammer and sickle 17:20, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
This is not what we are here to discuss, I will have no more of it. DisgustingWastelander (talk) 17:22, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
  • the bans were in no way justified. we’ve had discussions in the staff room before over whether we have jurisdiction to dictate people’s PMs and, rightfully so, it was deemed we did not have that authority. the bans against the users who only PMd C and did not do anything in NP are completely unjustified. that should’ve been handled off of nukapedia and not with nukapedia. why did yesterday’s events suddenly change what we’ve already established and give us the authority to punish people for what they do off of nukapedia? 1. one event happened in common room
  2. Information from a restricted channel was passed between the group
  3. it is long established that we do not allow use of Nukapedia resources to troll or raid, the mole in being a mole, and Finn, in being Finn, together brought the event into Nukapedia space
  4. I questiom whether anyone who is defending use of Nukapedia to troll is a fit and proper person to be holding any position of authority. Agent c (talk)

  • If they're harassing a member of Nukapedia in PMs, why should they be permitted any use of NP space like nothing is happening just because they're doing it in PMs? Either way, the spamming was stupid and there are definitely better ways they could have been spending their time. Great Mara (talk) 16:59, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
there’s a block button for a reason. and if they harass them on NP then action will be taken. President Autumn User image president autumn signature 17:09, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
In what way that prevents them for moving on and harassing other users? Dragão Carmesim Red hammer and sickle 17:22, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
