Starting this thread as a place for discussing everything related to gadgets, i.e. discussing current gadgets, requesting new ones, plans etc.

I've enabled the first set of gadgets - a list with short descriptions can be found at Special:Gadgets or on the "Gadgets" tab of Special:Preferences. Here are the links to the original scripts on dev.wikia (where you can also find descriptions and instructions on how to use the scripts on other Wikia-hosted wikis):

At the moment, there is one gadget I'm still planning to create. It'd allow users to insert standardized messages on other users' talk pages simply by clicking on links (instead of having to substitute a template). Don't think I'll start working on that any time soon though, I guess I need to focus on my to-do list for now ;) -- Porter21 (talk) 12:06, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

I have activated the OasisAdvancedUI gadget, they're neat little features. I don't need the other 2, as the options here can be accessed fast enough by other ways. But I appreciate the effort, Porter. If you have any more, I'm interested. Jspoelstra 18:14, January 22, 2011 (UTC)
Well, that's the point in having these scripts as gadgets - everybody can pick and choose whatever he/she likes :) I'll continue to look around for more options to add over time and will keep posting newly-added ones here. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:22, January 22, 2011 (UTC)

OasisToolbarButtons.js adjustments needed?

It seems that Wikia has changed the arrangement of links on the bottom toolbar. Now the "Share", "My Tools" and "Customize" links underlay the position where your added useful links were. I hope that you will update the OasisToolbarButtons.js to adjust for this. I found your stable links to be very useful before this change. :P ~ Gardimuer { ʈalk } 00:19, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Seriously, have they not got better things to do than mess around with what already works. ☣Avatar☣ 00:23, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
Actually, OasisToolbarButtons.js is no longer needed, since the Customize link allows you to add custom links to the bottom toolbar. The update was actually inspired by Porter's gadget. :) Ausir(talk) 03:00, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I noticed that after I removed it, but it is still lacking thinks like purge etc. So in my view it is a step backwards. Especially since they moved it to the other side, so it no longer works in harmony with Porters script, thats just being mean. ☣Avatar☣ 03:11, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
I've updated both the dev.wikia version of the script and our local copy to fix these issues (by moving my buttons to the other side of the toolbar). As Ausir said, its function is now largely replicated by the customizable toolbar although it's missing a few functions (protect, purge). Not sure whether I will keep updating the script. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:03, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
How about adding only the missing functions? Ausir(talk) 10:27, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
I'll probably provide three different modes:
  1. Add "protect" and "purge"
  2. Make "MyTools" & the customizable buttons right-aligned (as prior to the update), add no buttons
  3. Add all buttons and make "MyTools" right-aligned (basically restore it to pre-update state but keep the customizable buttons)
We'd still have to decide which of these three to use for the gadget as gadgets have to be pre-configured. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:58, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
