Hi Nukapedia admins & editors,

As you may know, Wikia has created a Community App that makes your community's content available to smartphone and tablet users. In your community app, we're testing out a "Discussions" feature that's now available there.

Discussions lets the app users create and reply to conversation threads about Fallout, the new game and related subjects. We've also added the ability to log in using your Wikia account, and users will need an account to participate in Discussions. Of course, we encourage you to log in and discuss as well! It's still early in development, and we'd love your feedback on the feature.

Admins and mods won't have any special moderation tools at this early stage -- those are in development as I write this -- so Wikia staff will be monitoring the discussions and deleting anything nonsensical or objectionable. Please let us know if you notice any content that concerns you or if receive any reports from app users.

Right now, there is no connection to the community website as it's seen on desktop or on mobile web browsers, and it won't affect the forums that exist now. This new format exists only in the app at the moment. Our next step is to launch a read-only web version of the in-app Discussions, so that people can share the threads on social media. We'll update you as this feature continues to evolve, and of course we welcome any feedback that you may have!

Thanks!

Hey Nukapedians,
I know you’re busy playing and documenting Fallout 4, or else counting the days until you have a copy in your hands! I wanted to give you an update on the Discussions feature and how things are going. Hopefully some of you have had a chance to check out the conversations in the Community App. They have really blown up over the past months – we’ve seen over 50,000 users create a Wikia account in the Fallout app, most of them doing that to participate in Discussions!
That’s a pretty impressive number of people, and quite a few are making return visits in the app. These are new members of your community, reading the articles you’ve written and talking about every aspect of the game that’s the passion all of you share.
Discussions are available to read on the web as well. Check it out at http://fallout.fandom.com/d/f/3035/. This web version isn’t “discoverable” right now, except via URLs shared from the app. Shortly it will be possible to contribute via the web interface too, both on desktop and mobile browsers. So you’ll be able to easily participate even without using the app.
The Wikia Community team has been handling moderation duties so far, and for the most part we’ve been impressed at the quality and civility of the users conversing via the app. In early December, we’ll release some basic moderation options for the admin and moderator user groups, in both the app and web versions. More robust moderation options are coming in the new year, along with plenty of other additions.
Even if some of you don’t wish to moderate Discussions yourselves, it’s important to identify those participants who show that they’re willing to take on that role. Admins will be able to assign such users to the moderator group. Those new community managers, and others, may well become article editors in the future! This new gathering place is an exciting way to help your community grow and opens up new ways to get readers involved and keep them coming back for more.
I’m happy to answer any questions that you might have. Please do check out all of the activity happening now in Discussions! Thanks. -BertH @fandom (help forum | blog) 23:56, November 24, 2015 (UTC)
Hey Nukapedia!
Like Bert said a couple weeks ago: we're well-aware that you're in the middle of some quests right now. I just wanted to give you an update on discussions.
As of a couple days ago, Discussions are live with contribution on the desktop site. The pace is pretty regular, and the discussions are very lively, so we're actually pretty stoked about it.
We've been handling moderation from the staff end, and that's what I'm here to talk about. Wikia staff has been monitoring the discussions for quite a while now, and we think we've identified a few good candidates. It also looks like your moderation rights aren't assigned to any active users, so it hopefully wouldn't be much of an imposition.
(Of course, if there are users who might be good moderators for Discussions, you can assign them to that group and they’ll have the delete/undelete tools - blocking is still admin-only. The Moderator group still has extra options in Forum and Wall too, and very soon in Comments. This should be considered, especially if you’re looking to promote users who surface from the “app user” crowd, who may not have name recognition in the wiki community.)
So the tl;dr here: Wikia staff will continue to keep an eye on things and moderate, but ideally there could be an organic transition of those duties to community members who are excited to tackle that.
Also — please be open and communicative if you have questions, concerns, suggestions, fears, etc. We know there’s lots more work to do, and we’ve got much more planned for the beginning of the year and beyond. More robust moderation functions and options are a high priority.
If there are questions, I'm around to help. Let me know! Ducksoup (talk) 00:26, December 10, 2015 (UTC)

Hello all!
We'd like to add a couple discussions moderators to help guide the community that's sprung up around the app. I've identified a few that are very active on the app and could do a great job.
I've asked them to reach out to you once I add them. If I don't hear otherwise, I'll probably add them to the team with Moderator rights sometime next week.
Let me know! Ducksoup (talk) 22:22, December 18, 2015 (UTC)

( Who will be the moderators for the app? I'd like to know that. And when (or if) will you be assigning admins? I'd imagine it would be useful to have 1 or 2 being able to block. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:27, December 19, 2015 (UTC)

Hey there! I want to add User:Kate Shaw. She's extremely active in the discussions on the app and would be a great moderator addition. Would that be OK with you? Ducksoup (talk) 23:31, January 4, 2016 (UTC)
I trust your judgment. You can go ahead on my account. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:46, January 4, 2016 (UTC)
Wow, OK, awesome! I'll ask her to come introduce herself here, too. She's not expressed interest in it, but for my curiosity: if she's into it, would you perhaps appreciate a new admin, too? Ducksoup (talk) 21:37, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

Admin hood is probably too much of a step, we have rules, prequisites and procedures for that.

We do need a moderator process, but I trust your judgement for an intitial one Agent c (talk) 22:58, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

We have rules for becoming admin for our wiki, we don't have specific rules for becoming admin for the Community App. Personally I'd say if you feel she can be admin, make her one if she's interested in it, then we'd at least have one constant force now over there outside of Wikia personnel. It's hard to judge her qualities anyway for our wiki-community because she's only (been) active on the app, and the users over here don't see that. But an introduction would be good in any case. Hey Jspoel, would you mind if I added SSJ3 Rusticus too? There's some spam and off-topic discussion floating around on the app discussion. Again, only with Discussions permissions - they won't be active on the desktop site at all unless I talk to you first. Ducksoup (talk) 19:51, January 22, 2016 (UTC)
Sure go ahead, I trust your judgment. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:53, January 22, 2016 (UTC)
