Forums: Index > User rights requests > Discussion Moderator Request - Colonel Autumnn

Hi everyone. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been a member of the discussions board for over two years now. I originally started using the wiki in November of 2015 but didn’t actually post anything until July of 2016. I have two accounts. My main, Colonel Autumnn, and my alt President Autumnn. To get straight to my point, I feel as though we have a lack of active moderators. With the release of Fo76 right around the corner, the moderators will be overwhelmed with discussions. I’d like to run for discussions moderator to help maintain discussions as best as I can. I’m very familiar with the rules and I know a lot about all the lore of fallout as well. I believe I can be a big help to our current d mods and admins and to anyone on the wiki. I will be very active throughout most hours of the day. I hope you’ll all consider my request. Thanks. 9. Yes Colonel, I do believe there is a lack of active moderators at this point of time, I also believe that you are the best candidate to fill in that role especially during Fallout 76's B.E.T.A Release, Best of wishes, Your local Beagle Bagel taken fresh and warm from the bakery. The

Do you have an endorsement from an active Discussion Moderator, Administrator, or Bureaucrat? This is a requirement for running for Discussions Moderator. Also, can you link your alt user, I am unable to find it. DisgustingWastelander (talk) 16:27, October 21, 2018 (UTC)

Yes I have an endorsement from CollinTheCourier. Also, here is my alt: http://fallout.fandom.com/d/u/29769687 Colonel Autumnn (talk) 11:37, October 21, 2018
Ok. Collin needs to put his endorsement on the request. Can you tell him to do that? DisgustingWastelander (talk) 16:40, October 21, 2018 (UTC)

Yes I will message him right now. Colonel Autumnn (talk) 11:45, October 21, 2018

When I saw this vote come up, I had to ask myself who you are. Skimming through your post history, yes you have been here a long time and no you haven't particularly broken any rules (I've seen you lose your cool once, but no big deal). That said, what you have written otherwise makes it difficult to give me an idea of how you will approach being a moderator and there are a lot of gaps in your post history, usually of a couple of days at a time. I can interpret those gaps as being one of two things:
  1. You're a lurker who is actually here everyday, but only posts when you feel the need to.
  2. You're a casual user who only drops by when you have something to say.
To me, the first of those options is a great thing, if you're lurking then you'll be impartial enough to make reasonable judgement calls, yet active enough to spot problems fairly quickly. If it is the latter that is very much a problem.
The other issue is I cannot see how you interact with other users in a heated situation, bar the one time you lost your cool. If that is how you will handle a heated situation, then I'd be concerned that we will end up with another discussions moderator that blows their top, or one that jumps too soon for the block button.
Before I even consider voting yes, I'd want to see a lot more interaction with users in more heated situations and debates; topics that sit on the fringes of the rules and could do with a balanced touch. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 06:40, October 22, 2018 (UTC)
How does a user show more interaction in heated situations without it being considered minimodding? The right course of action if there is a heated conversation going on at /d is to just report and move on. DisgustingWastelander (talk) 07:57, October 22, 2018 (UTC)
There are ways to diffuse things without minimodding. The definition of mini modding would be to say "these are the rules" or "You're going to get banned". Saying things like "this is getting heated, we should probably take a breather and calm things down" or plain attempting to redirect from the points of contention are not and should be done by users, regardless of rights as a first resort in most cases.
Arguably passive moderation, but I'd call it community responsibility as they're not trying to call shots in an official sounding capacity. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 08:11, October 22, 2018 (UTC)
