Background

This vote is to vote upon what to do about the situation of pages in the "pre-war country" category.

The following is a list of the "Countries mentioned" list. Those with pages are linked below.

Discussion on this topic is contained here.

Current status

There are no specific rules or policies that currently apply to creating pages of this type. However, our general content policies do apply. Inclusive and relevant to this discussion are the following:

Selected items from Content Policy
  • All content should relate to the Fallout series of games, its setting or the SPECIAL character system.
  • All content needs to be accurate. Fallout Wiki aims to provide reliable information. In particular, adding speculation and own inventions (fan fiction, fan art etc.) to articles should be avoided.
  • All content needs to be verifiable. Other editors need to be able to check and verify it.
  • All content needs to be informative. Information which is only of interest to the writer or to other editors (as opposed to readers) should not be included in articles.
  • All content needs to relate to the games as delivered by the developers; user modifications are not covered by this wiki.
Content Organisation and categorisation policy
  • Strength of an article: Every article should be "strong" enough to stand on its own. This means the subject provides enough content to write an article of decent length about it.

The proposals and poll

Rather than look at each individual page and decide separately (and thus need consensus on each one), this vote will set a standard that can be applied now and into the future, including on current pages. If we agree a standard, pages which don't meet it can be deleted.

If there is any debate whether a page meets the standard or not, consenus should be obtained on that page's talk page in the usual way.

Proposal 1 - No change

Under this proposal, There will be no changes made to the policies at all. No specific country requirements will be made, nor any further guidance on how the existing rules

Proposal 2 - Primary referencing only

Under this proposal the following will be added into content creation policy at an appropriate point:

Pages for countries/nation states can be created where a Fallout game has been based within the boundaries of that entity (in either the normal, or Fallout universe); this includes released and unreleased games regardless of canon status.

Pages for countries can also be created where the country has a significant place in the Fallout Lore. This includes Intro videos/cut scenes, supplementary materials, and the Fallout Bibles.

The page should contain information on that country, as it is known to exist in the Fallout universe only. If a character or item does not offer any insight to that location's representation in the Fallout universe, it is irrelevant and should not be included.

These rules are subject to the general guideline that all articles need to be "strong" enough to stand on their own, meaning there is enough content to justify their existence.

TLDR: Basically, if something tells us about a country, it can be included. Accent, words and names that sound like they're from there, and mentioning that people/items have a national origin is not relevant unless it speaks to how that country is in the Fallout world.

Vote HERE for option 2 only

  1. Yes All other content related to other countries accounted for in the Extended Primary proposal should be put on a relevent related page and not given their own page Lord Onions: Dat Onion Ring Luvin Fox! (Talk) 22:54, July 24, 2015 (UTC)

Proposal 3 - Expanded Primary referencing

Under this proposal the following will be added into content creation policy at an appropriate point:

Pages for countries/nation states can be created where a Fallout game has been based within the boundaries of that entity (in either the normal, or Fallout universe); this includes released and unreleased games regardless of canon status.

Pages for countries can also be created where the country has a significant place in the Fallout Lore. This includes Intro videos/cut scenes, supplementary materials, and the Fallout Bibles.

Pages can also be created if a character present in a Fallout game claims to be from there, or a character references that location. This page should contain in game content referencing that character.

The page should contain information on that country, as it is known to exist in the Fallout universe. It may also contain information of characters from that location, or whom discuss the location without offering any real insight into the place.

Using a language or accent common to the place does not merit inclusion on a page in its own right; neither does an ancestral link or name/world entymology justify a page.

Items that may trace their origin to that location should only be listed if that object provides insight on the location's representation in the Fallout universe.

These rules are subject to the general guideline that all articles need to be "strong" enough to stand on their own, meaning there is enough content to justify their existence.

TLDR: Basically, if something tells us about a country, it can be included. Accent, words and names that sound like they're from there, and mentioning that items have a national origin is not relevant unless it speaks to how that country is in the Fallout world. We can however list people that come from a particular place.
