:::::You bring up a valid concern. One I probably should have made myself clear on in the original post. I don't play around with this tool. It's not a toy to use to snoop on people. Wikia makes you sign for these rights certifying that you will only use it for it's intended purpose: to verify suspected abusers of multiple accounts. If anyone knows me at all, they know I'm not gonna sign my name to anything and then break it. I've used this tool a lot. A whole lot. But each time, with just cause on someone that there was fair suspicion of abusing multiple accounts. I lost track of how many people I've nailed with this thing. And that's the beauty of this tool. Used properly, it's a great asset to keep people who should be banned from playing fast and loose with the rules. We've learned there's limitations, too. Not only do you have to understand the tool, but you have to fully understand how IPs work, be able to trace them and make clear decisions where you don't block an entire school or something. The good news is, I already understand this stuff:P'''<span style="border: 2px solid gold; background-color: red; white-space: nowrap; ">[[User:The Gunny|<font color= "gold">&nbsp; The Gunny&nbsp;</font>]]</span>&nbsp;'''[[File:UserGunny chevrons.png|x20px|link=User talk:The Gunny]] 00:22, June 18, 2015 (UTC)

Forums: Index > Wiki proposals and applications > Check user rights request - The Gunny

The title says it all. When my bureaucrat vote is finalized, if I gain those rights, I plan on asking Wikia for check-user rights again. For those of you who don't know what these are, they are a staff tool that allows me to look up IPs related to accounts and accounts related to IPs. It is a very useful tool when dealing with sock-puppets and ban evasion. As I had these rights previously, I'm familiar with their use and limitations. The place they are most needed is in chat, and having a check-user rights holder in chat a lot, as I am, will be a boon. I would like to get the community's support to ask Wikia for these rights upon being granted Bureaucrat rights.

Do I have your support to ask Wikia for check-user rights?
