Forums: Index > Wiki proposals and applications > Adminship Request - Paladin117

Hey everyone, I am Paladin117 and I am running for admin rights.

Who are you?

I became a member of this wiki on January 21st, 2012, over two years ago, and have remained active the majority of that time, only being inactive for a couple of days at most. I gained patroller rights 4 months after joining, on May 21st, and have been using my powers consistently since then. Other things I have done on this wiki include:

  • joining one of the walkthrough chart projects. While I did join in late, I did so because the project had been inactive for some months and I helped to complete it.
  • purchasing Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for the PC so I could gain access to the GECK to help contribute here, although I'm not a total expert yet.
  • constantly patrolling the Recent Changes, looking for vandals to revert and mistakes made by proper editors.
  • being given temporary mod powers a total of 10 times while on chat.
  • entering into the Home Viewer portion of the Fallout: Apprentice in 2012 and winning.
  • entering into the Fallout: Apprentice in 2013 and, somehow, ended up winning.
  • Oh, and I have quite a few edits:
There should have been a list of this user's edit counts here, but the edit counts feature is no longer available.

Why aren't you running for moderator?

While I try to be on chat and do contribute to conversations occasionally, I do not believe I can fully utilize the rights I would gain as a moderator. When I talk to others online, I like to overanalyze what I have typed before submitting it, something that is difficult when chat will go through 5 topics in the time I will make 1 remark. If I am on and see someone obviously disrupting the chat, which has happened before, I will stop them, but other than that I am less than useful. For this reason, I do not believe I will be much more useful to the wiki as a moderator than I am as a patroller.

Why do you want to be an admin?

I wish to continue helping this wiki as best I can and gaining admin rights will allow me to better do that. While uncommon, there have been times where there were problems on the wiki or chat and no admins were around to help. The result was us either having to wait for one to finally take notice or for me to have to spam Agent c over Skype until he would wake up, neither of which are great solutions. I am on almost every night (although my job is making that difficult for Saturdays right now) and stay on until 12-2 am, US Eastern time. I wish to be admin to try to help the other admins, banning vandals, protecting pages, moving and deleting images and pages, and any other forms of maintenance that I can find. This will be especially useful in the next year or so when Bethesda should, hopefully, be announcing a new Fallout game, which will cause this site's traffic, and thus it's need for administrators, to increase exponentially.

  6. Yes This gives Paladin some well deserved authority, expands his editing tools, and allows him to moderate chat and an hour when there remains gaps in coverage. I see no reason to deny this request. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  03:14, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

  12. Yes Pally's been a great help when it comes to bouncing citation ideas off of and has demonstrated great competency and assistance when it comes to gathering source information. The only way he could be any better for the role of admin would be by increasing his presence in blogs and forums. No

  1. No I'm still up to changing my vote, but I need a better answer to my question first: When I asked what you plan to do with admin rights, you just listed what they were (ban vandals, protect pages, etc.). What are you going to do with them? Because I'm not seeing anything special. We can give any trusted user rights and have them use them effectively, but do you have any goals or projects that require them-- something that sets you apart from the others? 69.l25 (talk) 04:02, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

  1. Neutral 69.l25 (talk) There is indeed a time gap, as you mentioned; however, A Follower recently filled this in. We don't get much vandalism around this time, anyway. You've also mentioned nothing about the administrator's tool set. Why exactly do you need it then? If you can name something I'd gladly change my vote to "Yes," but you haven't explained what you will do with admin tools. If you can't explain, I must vote "No."

Comments, Concerns, Death Threats?

And this all reminds me how bad I am at public speaking. Thank all of you for contributing to my forum. Paladin117>>iff bored; 00:41, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

The first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one ; ) Don't worry Pally, your humility alone is all I require from an admin (or people I like in general), as a matter of improving any shortcomings begins with it.
Besides, your public speaking isn't too bad and nobody is beyond improvement, but if you feel it needs some work I'd be glad to offer feedback if it is requested. --The Ever Ruler (talk) 17:40, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

Give me your damned lunch money or I'll shove that Twinkie up your nose. <------ my best attempt at a death threat. Toci US Air Force Into the wild blue yonder... 00:52, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

Why do you need admin rights? Banning vandals is obvious, anyone can do it, and it won't come in handy in the time you're most prominently available. What will you do with the admin tools? 69.l25 (talk) 00:55, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

Give me that sammich or I'm going to fire my laser eyes at you. Unless Nate decides to jump in front of it. ---bleep196- (talk) 02:01, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

I'll be more straightforward: you have potential, but your general promises are unsatisfying. Like I said, you listed what anyone can do with admin rights, so I'm wondering why you should have them. (The banning vandals/protecting pages thing is a given, so when you remove that, there's really nothing left.) Also you don't need admin rights to help other admins. (This is a very nonspecific goal as well.) So I ask, for a last time, what specific goals or objectives do you have that require you to hold admin rights? 69.l25 (talk) 02:24, February 15, 2014 (UTC)
