Hi, if you don't know me I'm Aiden, one of the patrollers, and I'd like to apply to be an administrator.

Contributions

I have been a patroller since August 2019, and am also active in the wiki discussion section, but I am not part of the wiki Discord. I don't have many big ticket works on the wiki that come to mind, but I have made over 5000 edits since joining the wiki with a actual account. These edits have included rewrites, article talk pages, user talk pages, page clean ups, overview and disambiguation pages, fixing edits from new users and clearing up after vandals. Some of my major works include;

• Being part of the clean up of The Pitt (city) last year with DirtyBlue929 and others, and writing the then new section on Wernher's uprising.
• Created page "The Scorch", which was the original page of the Scorched Plague before the official name was known.
• Created overview pages for some chems, including Calmex and X-cell.
• Created overview page for Chinese officer's sword.
• Was involved with the creation of the Chinese pistol overview page with Scribe-Howard.
• Created pages for Sierra Madre security, Saturnite artillery shell, C-23 Megaton, Monday, Jacob Lerner, Last President of the United States, and others.
• After much trial and error created navboxes for Fallout: New Vegas highways and seperate navboxes for Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 perk magazines.

I do feel like I'm skipping a step here, by applying directly for adminship and not a moderator position first, but after reading the wiki policy I do technically qualify for both positions, and believe I can do more for the wiki as an admin.

3. Branebriar1930 (talk) 08:17, 26 April 2021 (UTC) Admin is serious request, especially skipping CMOD (which I don't feel you have given a sufficient reason as to why), I would personally expect a much higher level of activity and involvement in the community before I would vote yes to any sysop.
4. I respect your contributions and I'm grateful for them, but we need more administrators that communicate and take an active part in the community beyond just editing and in-house discussion. It's nothing personal. I've never heard of you, and I've been on this wiki for a while now, although not as long as others. Whilst you are technically eligible, I believe jumping from Patroller to Administrator would simply do more harm than good for the wiki and the connection that staff have to the community. An army of editors is lovely and it is definitely necessary, but we don't need faceless leaders, and we have a chronic amount of staff members who got where they are with minimal interaction with the people this wiki is for. 3. Your edits are good and the talk page interactions we had were always polite and constructive. However, I agree with the arguments stated by both Kate and Leon in the comments. From patroller to admin might be too big a step, especially without any bureaucrat or admin sponsoring your application. 4. I am on the fence, leaning to yes, and pending some of the discussion below may switch midstream. Mara is right, Cmod is not a requirement to be admin, only patroller is, but for me, one of the primary differences between Cmod and Admin, should be the willingness to engage in the Security Desk. I would like to see more interactions with others, how you react in real time as much as in talk pages, since those could very easily be situations you are called upon to deal with as an admin. Hi Aiden, great contributions. Just have a few questions. I think that co-mod is an important step to experience first before admin, at least it really was for me. That few months can really make a big difference in preparing you for the responsibilities, progressive roles and all, as well as additional tools. Do you have plans to become active on Discord? What experience do you have in the social aspect (dealing with conflict, etc.) And what do you mean by do more for the wiki as admin than comod? I haven't really talked with other users about the differences between admin and moderator, and from reading the policy, it seemed to me that the roles were very similar. But I'm not quite certain. I don't want to discourage you or reduce your confidence or anything. You are a solid staff member that I respect a great deal, and the policies don't go into too much detail of inner workings, so please don't feel bad for not knowing. The admin role is just a little more involved, with a significant social component that you may want to experience for a short time Discord-side, getting to know the members of the community you would be serving. I only wanted to let you know because I believe the time I spent as co-mod was really beneficial for preparing me for admin. I'm not inherently opposed to you gaining adminship, as you seem to have a great disposition and you work incredibly hard, but being an admin also requires having a certain social awareness and ability to effectively handle user and editing disputes.

Can you show us some examples of you successfully mediating any situations around the wiki? And I'm also a believer that admins need to be able to provide something unique and innovative to the wiki, something akin to a dissertation of sorts, if you can think of anything that might represent that.

Otherwise, I'd suggest running for Content Moderator instead, which essentially gives you the same editing tools without the responsibility that comes with being a leader and mouthpiece for the wiki. And for the record, if you ran for CMod, I'd vote yes for you in a heartbeat. ^寧靜 19:34, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

I understand, it probably would be better to try for a moderator position. As for examples of mediating around the wiki, or at least attempts to, I can link the user talk pages of some anonymous users who I spoke with about edit wars (mostly the real world weapon comparisons policy), and with a bit more time I could probably link some of the discussions I was involved with from article talk pages; User talk:172.222.180.160, User talk:204.43.235.143, User talk:174.105.55.187.

Okay, this is getting a bit ridiculous. People voting no based on not having been a moderator or content moderator should be well aware that having held those positions prior has never been a requirement for an administrator position. Editors have always been able to move from patroller to admin. Voters should familiarize themselves with the application requirements prior to voting. Great Mara (talk) 19:43, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
