General healing skill. Used to heal small cuts, abrasions and other minor ills. In game terms, the use of first aid can heal more hit points over time than just rest.— In-game description

First Aid is a skill in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics. In Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, First Aid was merged with Doctor into the Medicine skill.

After successfully using First Aid three times, one will not be able to use the skill again for a day. One will receive a message to that effect if attempted a third time. The cooldown time is lower if some time has passed between the uses. Each attempt takes half an hour. Note that the formula shown on the Fallout character screen is incorrect, displaying as 30 + (PE + IN).

Fallout Tactics

Example: A starting Perception of 5 and Intelligence of 5

In Fallout Tactics multiplayer games, First Aid allows the ability to bring near-dead warriors back to full health in one or two turns. Moreover, healing via first aid kits is more cost-effective than relying on stimpaks. The downside is that the healer and the healee must not move or the process terminates, resulting in the loss of Action Points. It is especially useful in conjunction with high hit point characters such as deathclaws.

Repeatedly using First Aid on a character will result in the recipient being Bandaged, preventing further healing with First Aid until the patient is treated with the Doctor skill.
